Autism has traditionally gone underdiagnosed in women and girls, but that is changing. From 2011 to 2022, the ratio of boys/men to girls/women diagnosed with autism decreased from 4:1 to 3:1. Girls with autism are more likely to mask and may have special interests that align with societal expectations. But that doesn’t make their way of experiencing the world any less real.
