Sims Metal was excited to welcome Minister Dale Last and leaders from Alter Steel to our Pinkenba facility on Monday. During the visit we shared Sims’ plans to develop a world-leading recycling and logistics hub at Pinkenba that would consolidate and process end-of-life scrap metal from across the State, using rail and shipping to reduce truck movements and emissions. We also discussed the non-binding MOU between Sims Metal and Alter Steel to explore the establishment of a scrap supply and services agreement supporting Alter Steel’s proposed Pinkenba steel mill, that is situated 1km away on the same street as Sims Metal’s facility at Pinkenba. The collaboration between Sims Metal and Alter Steel would take Queensland’s scrap metal and give it a future right here as Queensland-made reinforcing steel. #investinqueensland #greensteel #scrapmetal #circulareconomy #madeinqueensland
Queensland manufacturing doesn’t stop at production - it’s also transforming what would otherwise go to waste. Earlier in the week at Sims Metal, I saw firsthand how a global leader in metal recycling is supporting local jobs, industry and the circular economy, backed by a 70-year presence across Queensland. Another example of Queensland manufacturing leading on innovation, sustainability and jobs.
