They describe Total Value as the intersection of Total Experience, bringing together customer, employee, and partner interactions into a unified system, and Total Performance, how effectively front, middle, and back-office operations work together to drive growth, resilience, and profitability. Their core argument is: the biggest returns from AI won’t come from isolated deployments inside individual functions. They’ll come from connecting experience and performance across the enterprise. As agentic AI matures, the measurement framework also shifts from function-level KPIs to outcome-based value like retention, lifetime value, and revenue growth. PwC's 2026 AI Performance Study found that the organizations pulling ahead aren't the ones that automated the most. KPMG US's Q1 2026 AI Pulse report puts a striking number on a problem most enterprise leaders are already feeling: U.S. organizations are projected to spend an average of $207 million on AI over the next 12 months, nearly double last year, yet 65% report difficulty scaling AI use cases, up from just 33% last quarter. The investment appetite is undeniable. What's lagging is the infrastructure to turn that spend into something measurable. Throwing more capital at AI without solving the scaling gap isn't a strategy, it's a larger experiment. What KPMG is really diagnosing is a work management problem dressed up as a technology problem.
