Healthcare access is not just inconvenient; it is eroding trust. On Bloomberg Businessweek Daily, Danish Nagda put it clearly: “People are just opting out of the healthcare system,” and when they finally do get sick, “you don’t know where to go, you don’t have an existing relationship.” That is not a small issue; it is what happens when a workforce delays care until things are serious. He also pointed out two important dynamics: that “everybody’s focused on the aging population” while undetected disease builds up in younger populations, and that tens of millions of daily health questions are going to AI tools that “are not built with a clinical guardrail.” The gap between where people look for answers and what the system is built to handle is getting wider. When healthcare access breaks, everything downstream gets more expensive. Last week on Bloomberg TV with Matthew Miller, we talked about why healthcare access has deteriorated so badly, why employers are increasingly absorbing the cost, and how a different model for primary and specialty care can change that trajectory. The traditional experience still makes no sense: Patients wait weeks for appointments, bounce between providers, and often end up in urgent care or the ER because access failed upstream. That breakdown is fueling a major shift toward direct care and direct employer partnerships.
