A wonderful new addition to the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance on Chicago’s west side! Peoples Gas provided financial support to help build a new children’s garden. We also provide ongoing support for the conservatory’s environmental education programs. We are proud to be a community partner of the conservatory, and to support Chicagoans across every city neighborhood.

Our work in the community involves volunteering across all city neighborhoods. Here, our team members served as judges at a coding and robotics competition for Chicago middle schoolers. We are a community partner of the event organizer Project SYNCERE , a nonprofit that creates pathways for local students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math. We’re proud to support and inspire the next generation of local STEM professionals!

A Mother’s Day tradition on our roof! The mama goose known for laying eggs and raising babies each year atop our operations shop at Peterson and Pulaski returned again this spring — and six goslings hatched from the eggs. Our team members spent Saturday volunteering at the Erie Neighborhood House community center in Little Village. 20 members from our Listo!+ business resource group took on a long list of tasks to beautify the center inside and out. They mulched the garden, cleaned the grounds, resurfaced an epoxy floor, decorated classrooms and even packed snack for children. This is the kind of community work Peoples Gas does year round and especially during National Volunteer Month!

Before vs. After… The uniform makes all the difference, and these young Chicagoans earned the right to wear it. The Chicago Public Schools students completed the first 2 phases of our Bright Futures U paid training program and are now in the final phase of training. After that, they can have jobs waiting for them upon high school graduation. We’ve already hired 20 students through Bright Futures U. 101 more are in the program now and working toward that goal. Peoples Gas offers career-track jobs to those in the communities we serve.

Today is Arbor Day, and our digging safety team is at Navy Pier to share an important message… Always call 811 at least 2 days before starting any outdoor digging project! A technician will come mark the spots were utility lines are buried, so no one hits a line and gets hurt. It’s easy, free, and the law. Look for us outside the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion!
