Congratulations to Milton Eugenio Romero on receiving the Alan P. O’Shea Memorial Scholarship at MCAA26 during the Awards of Excellence Breakfast on March 18th. The Mechanical Contractors Association of New Jersey established two $2,500 scholarships to honor the memory of Alan P. O’Shea, former Executive Director of the MCA of New Jersey. These national scholarships memorialize Mr. O’Shea’s many contributions to the mechanical contracting industry. “What I valued most during my internship at A&A Industrial Piping, Inc. was mastering Trimble AutoBid, which transformed the quantity takeoff process for active bids. This tool enabled me to extract precise material quantities from complex mechanical drawings in minutes, significantly enhancing bid accuracy and submission efficiency. I gained a thorough understanding of the bidding process, including the distinctions between public and private biddings, from prevailing wage compliance to owner directed alternates. The experience highlighted the critical role of time management in mechanical contracting, where every bid deadline, material delivery, and labor hour must align to secure awards and maintain profitability. Day two of the 2026 PCA Plumbing Services Conference has been a hit so far, and we still have afternoon roundtables and a rooftop reception ahead of us. Thank you to North Mechanical Contracting and Service, UA Local 440 Plumbers, Pipefitters,& HVAC Techs, and everyone else who helped make this morning's tour of the UA Local 440 Training Center so insightful and rewarding.
