We're proud to see our work at Rosso Italian featured on Love That Design ✦ Nestled in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, Rosso Italian is a 5,000 SF space where sleek modernity meets rustic Italian warmth; exposed brick, concrete textures, rich black finishes, and an atmosphere that feels equally at home for a business dinner or a Saturday night out. This project is a testament to what's possible when great collaborators come together. Alongside Folklore Spaces, we translated Pomo Restaurant Group's vision into a space that doesn't just serve food, it sets a stage. At M Studio we bring that same intent to every project, from restaurants, to residences, to large-scale commercial work across Arizona and beyond. Design-forward thinking. Zero compromise on execution. Thank you to Love That Design for the feature and to the teams at and Rosso Italian for trusting us with this one. 🔗 Full feature in the link below. https://lnkd.in/gnUr-K4D #Architecture #InteriorDesign #PhoenixArchitecture #RestaurantDesign #MStudio #DesignForward #LoveThatDesign #ArizonaArchitecture

A building doesn't just exist in a place. It speaks to it. At M Studio, materiality is one of the most intentional decisions we make. From the desert landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico to the humid coastlines of Florida and South Carolina, we've learned that what a building is made of is never a one-size-fits-all answer; and it shouldn't be. For us, materiality goes far beyond a palette of finishes. It's the careful consideration of regionality, context, program, sustainability, and client vision working together. It's about how a material breathes in the Phoenix heat versus how it weathers a Wisconsin winter. It's juxtaposition, rough against smooth, warm against cool — and how those interactions create a sensory experience that a person feels before they even consciously register it. Materiality is mindfulness. It's the creation of an atmosphere, a mood, a memory. That's why we collaborate closely with interior designers like The Bloom Collective (Felicia Bonillas (Chavez), IIDA, NCIDQ, WELL AP); because the experience shouldn't stop at the threshold. Interior and exterior environments should merge, respond to one another, and tell a cohesive story. What do you consider materiality to be? We’re curious to see how other designers and architects approach the topic.

Construction is officially underway at @ volarehangars.com ✈️ We stopped by the site this week as work kicked off at Stellar Airpark. One of those milestones where the drawings start turning into real life. From early foundations and rebar to the first major sitework moves, it’s exciting to see the project take shape. Big respect to the Blucor Contracting Inc crew for getting everything set up and moving. More soon. — The M Studio Team #VolareHangars #StellarAirpark #AviationArchitecture #Hangars #AirPark #ConstructionUpdate #SiteVisit #BuiltWork #MStudioArchitecture

Reality vs. Render — The Golden Nugget There’s nothing like the moment a rendering turns into a real space you can walk into. For The Golden Nugget in Tucson (a local spot that’s been evolving for decades), our team helped shape a bar transformation focused on curating an elevated, moody, and memorable experience;and the women’s restroom became one of the most atmospheric moments in the project. In the transition from concept to built work, what mattered most stayed consistent: • Bold mood + lighting that instantly sets the tone • Arched mirrors + sculptural fixtures to create rhythm and glow • Layered textures + dark finishes that feel intimate and intentional • A little attitude (because the best bars have it) Swipe to see Render vs. Reality → and tell us: which one hits harder? — The M Studio Team #RealityVsRender #TucsonDesign #HospitalityDesign #InteriorArchitecture #MStudioArchitecture #DesignProcess #BuiltWork

Emmy elevates every project she touches, and clients consistently value having her as a trusted partner from start to finish. Get to know Emmy 1. What inspired you to become an architect? My family. One of my favorite things to do is combine tastes and flavors and create new recipes with them. 4. What’s one quality you try to model for your team every day? Motivation: a passion to work with energy, persistence, and dedication for reasons beyond money or status. 5. What’s one project that has had a lasting impact on how you design? I do not have one lasting impact project; I’m always learning something new with every project, any my experience is built on these lessons. 6. Name your favorite genre/architect and why: Spanish Colonial and Mexican Contemporary because they are part of my heritage. 7. Which part of the design process excites you the most? Construction documentation- I love to work through the details of how a building comes together and include it in my drawings. 8. What book, movie, or show has influenced your creative thinking? The Matrix series- it makes you think outside the box and question reality. 9. How do you unload after a long day? Put some good music on and dance like nobody is watching me! 10. If you weren’t an architect, what do you think you’d be doing instead? Reflecting on 2025, Designing into 2026 2025 was a year of momentum, and a reminder that the best part of practice is variety: different building types, different constraints, same commitment to craft. This year, M Studio delivered 25+ projects across healthcare, hospitality, aviation, multifamily, residential, industrial, tenant improvements, entertainment, and childcare. Our projects spanned from coast to coast. A few highlights we’re proud of: The Matheson: A 20,000 SF ground-up medical office building, designed to define a new architectural vernacular for Queen Creek. Stellar Airpark: An aviation airpark featuring 25+ private luxury hangars, crafted for the ultimate airplane enthusiast. The Golden Nugget: A bar transformation focused on curating an elevated, moody, and memorable experience. We’re grateful for every collaboration that made this year possible, and for a team that shows up every day with curiosity, precision, and heart. Here’s to 2026: more problem-solving, more design-driven work, and more architecture rooted in place. — The M Studio Team #MStudioArchitecture #Architecture #DesignProcess #ArizonaArchitecture #PhoenixArchitecture #HealthcareDesign #HospitalityDesign #AviationArchitecture #TenantImprovement #MultifamilyDesign

What Inspires Us as Architects & Designers Inspiration at M Studio rarely comes from one place. It’s a mix of references we return to again and again- nature, cities, culture, materiality, and the way people experience space. Sometimes it’s an iconic precedent like Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, where architecture truly becomes part of its surroundings. Sometimes it’s a museum visit that resets your eye. Sometimes it’s as technical as studying how materials meet, the tension between solid and void, light and shadow. And sometimes it’s personal: travel, street color, fashion, and the stories embedded in older architecture. This collage is a small look into what fuels our team’s creativity. Different lenses, shared intent: to design spaces that feel grounded, human, and deeply connected to place. What has been inspiring YOU lately? — The M Studio Team #DesignInspiration #Architecture #MStudioArchitecture #CreativePractice #DesignCulture #WhatInspiresUS

Team Highlight Mark Bonillas, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP Since founding M Studio Architecture in 2006, Mark Bonillas has led the firm with a vision that blends creativity, craft, and rigorous execution. He is a Registered Architect with over 20 years of experience that spans higher education, healthcare, municipal, multi-family housing, sports venues, and high-end residential projects. He is licensed in 10 states, is a professional member of AIA, and holds his NCARB and LEED certifications. Get to know Mark 1. What inspired you to become an architect? I remember when I was a kid, I loved looking at blueprints and building models-they fascinated me and were my first windows into the world of architecture. 2. How would you describe your design philosophy in three words? Practice, rigor, and balance. 3. What’s your creative outlet? I love building anything and everything in my warehouse. Right now I’m working on building a custom front door for my home. 4. What’s one quality you try to model for your team every day? The importance of commitment to the profession. 5. What’s one project that has had a lasting impact on how you design? When I worked for 180 Degrees Design + Build, I worked on a custom house called “Finding Beadle.” I was intrigued by the detailing of this project and how different materials came together with the thoughtful use of reveals. 6. Name your favorite genre/architect and why: My favorite architect is Tom Kundig. His ability to convey and implement ideas via his sketches is incredible. I also appreciate his use of raw, honest materials. 7. Which part of the design process excites you the most? I have two favorites: conceptual design and construction administration. Conceptual design allows me to flex my creative muscles and push the innovative envelope. Construction administration allows me to see design come together in the built environment. I also enjoy collaborating with contractors on design solutions when unexpected challenges come up during construction. 8. What book, movie, or show has influenced your creative thinking? Cruella. I know it’s a Disney movie, but I like that she went against the status quo and expressed her creativity in unconventional ways. 9. How do you unload after a long day? I either like to hit the gym or sit on the couch and watch a show. 10. If you weren’t an architect, what do you think you’d be doing instead? I would be an auto mechanic. I come from a family of mechanics, so I’m a natural gearhead. #TeamHighlight #Leadership #Architecture #MStudioArchitecture #DesignThinking #LicensedArchitect #Mentorship

Project Highlight Outbound Sedona Outbound Sedona is a boutique hospitality renovation project located in the iconic red rock landscape of Sedona, Arizona. The goal of Outbound Sedona was to transform the identity of a 1970s Sedona landmark while respecting its origin, and to cultivate a sense of human connection through the built environment. Previously known as Poco Diablo Resort, this project revitalized an existing hotel while preserving its relationship to nature and the southwest climate. Our team ensured that new architecture and design features respectfully blurred the line between exterior and interior, and fostered opportunities for human connection. A thoughtful re-imagining of the entire property was carefully constructed and strategically implemented. The vision incorporates elevated room renovations, a transformation of the spa building’s exterior and interior, stunning new centralized amenities such as a resort pool and fitness building, and enhanced meeting spaces. Our firm worked seamlessly with all disciplines and stakeholders involved to ensure the Outbound design drivers were achieved; A modern and upscale property that is inclusive and supports authentic connection. This renovation’s success is contributed to close coordination with our client Waterton, consultant partners The Gettys Group, JTA Engineering, LLC, JGGM Engineering, LLC , Hawkins Design Group Inc., Coe & Van Loo Consultants Inc., BIDDLE'S POOL SPA PATIO LLC, and construction partner Bolco Construction. As architects, we craft environments that are mindful, inspirational, and boldly creative. We are committed to delivering place-based architecture that elevates the human experience. Outbound Sedona encapsulates this and is defining a new, bold vernacular for Sedona’s hospitality market. We’re proud to support the continued evolution of hospitality experiences in Northern Arizona and beyond. *Currently Under Construction* — The M Studio Team #ProjectHighlight #OutboundSedona #Architecture #HospitalityDesign #ArizonaArchitecture #MStudioArchitecture #Renovation #DesignExcellence Renderings courtesy of The Gettys Group
