About us

LKB Engineering is born from a long history of expertise, growth, and collaboration. The organization is built on the legacy and foundation of both the Vertex Companies and Lockwood, Kessler, and Bartlett Incorporated. As we enter the next phase of evolution we will expand upon the expertise and reputation of the past while embracing innovations and progress into the future. The Vertex Companies, founded in 1995, brought on engineering in 2011 with the acquisition of McGlamery Engineering Group, LLC in Denver Colorado. They continued to grow their engineering services organically and in 2017 brought in Andrew Chagnon to expand engineering services in the Northeast and ultimately run the engineering design practice company wide. In 2021 Vertex Acquired Lockwood, Kessler, And Bartlett, Inc. of NY significantly expanding the engineering services they can offer. The same year the hired Dave Macedonio to help lead the New York market. The origins of Lockwood, Kessler & Bartlett, Inc. trace back to the year 1889, which rested between the American Civil War and World War I, where the primary means of short-distance transportation was achieved by using a horse and carriage, North Dakota became the 39th state, and Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd President of the United States. In 2024 Dave Macedonio and Andrew Chagnon worked in partnership with Vertex to execute a management buyout of the engineering design practice from Vertex and began to operate independently as LKB Engineering PLLC. This was a strategic decision which aligns with Vertex’s focus on expanding their core services (which include forensics, expert services, project advisory, compliance, and regulatory consulting) and the realignment empowers LKB Engineering to make strategic decisions regarding growth, hiring, and areas of practice, focusing solely on advancing engineering excellence. At the same time, it fosters a strong collaborative relationship between the two companies.

  • We’re proud to share a key infrastructure project with Nassau County — and a great example of how investment in our transportation network keeps people and goods moving safely. It’s well documented (https://lnkd.in/eaQQ8PQ) that much of our infrastructure is aging and in need of repair. Projects like this are exactly how those challenges are addressed at the local level. LKB Engineering has been working with Nassau County Department of Public Works to support the rehabilitation of the Charles Lindbergh Boulevard Bridge over the Meadowbrook State Parkway, bringing this critical structure to a state of good repair while extending its service life. This 390-foot-long, three-span steel girder bridge carries six lanes of traffic and sidewalks, serving as a key connection between the Mitchell Field Complex in Uniondale and Merrick Avenue. Our work included detailed inspection and development of rehabilitation recommendations and construction plans in accordance with NYSDOT standards. Planned improvements include bridge deck and sidewalk replacement, new median barriers, structural steel repairs, bearing replacements, conversion to a jointless structure, and new approach pavement. We are currently providing construction support services, with completion anticipated in mid-2026. This project reflects the strength of our long-term partnership with Nassau County and our shared commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and resilient infrastructure for the community. • LKB Engineering’s Gary DeBlois, Senior Project Manager, and Scott Crosby, Project Engineer, were on hand to celebrate the milestone moment for the Central Falls community - the ribbon cutting of the new Central Falls High School. This transformative $108 million, 4-story facility represents a major investment in education, opportunity, and the future of Central Falls. The project replaces the former high school with a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment designed to support students for generations to come. LKB Engineering is proud to be part of the collaborative design team, working with Traverse Landscape Architects and Ai3 Architects, LLC, helping to bring this important project to life. It was great to see so many project partners including Peregrine Group LLC, owner’s project manager; Brait Construction Managers, Contractor; community leaders; and educators come together to celebrate the opening of this new school. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this vision a reality—we’re excited to see students thrive in this incredible new space! Construction on the Charles Lindbergh Boulevard Bridge continues to advance as the project transitions into the next critical phase. The eastbound lanes have been closed to facilitate the rehabilitation of the bridge approaches. Work is now underway to replace the existing approaches with Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) pavement, enhancing long-term durability and performance. In parallel, crews have commenced the installation of bridge railing and chain link fencing, further progressing key safety and structural components of the project. We appreciate the continued coordination and effort of the entire project team as work moves forward. #NassauCountyDepartmentofPublicWorks #AECOM #LKB #HandLContracting #Construction #Infrastructure #BridgeRehabilitation #ProjectUpdate

  • We’re proud to highlight Stephanie T. L. DiPace, a Senior Civil Designer based in Massachusetts. Stephanie brings a strong background in environmental engineering and a passion for problem-solving to our civil team. Q: What is your education? A: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 2013 Q: Can you share a bit about your career journey so far? A: I started my career as a Project Engineer at HRP Associates in Farmington, CT, focusing on environmental compliance work like SWPPPs and SPCCs. That experience gave me a strong foundation in regulatory work and attention to detail. In 2016, I joined Vertex’s Boston office within the Remediation group, where I expanded my experience. In 2018, I transitioned into Civil Engineering, which allowed me to focus more on design and problem-solving—something I’ve really enjoyed. In 2024, I continued that path with the transition to LKB Engineering, which has provided a great opportunity to keep growing in that role. Q: What is a project or accomplishment that you are most proud of here? A: The school projects stand out the most—they’re large, complex, and incredibly rewarding to see come together. Being part of projects that directly support communities and students makes the work especially meaningful. Q: What is one lesson you’ve learned that you wish you knew earlier? A: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Early on, I learned that asking questions not only helps you grow faster but also leads to better outcomes for the team. Q: What do you appreciate most about working at LKB? A: The depth of knowledge across the team and the collaborative environment. Everyone is willing to step in and work through challenges together, which makes even complex problems feel manageable. Q: What career goals are you currently working toward? A: I’m working toward becoming a project manager and continuing to build the skills needed to lead projects effectively, from coordination to client communication. Q: Where do you see your career heading in the next few years? A: I see myself continuing to grow in both design and project management, taking on more responsibility while still staying involved in the technical aspects of the work. Q: What skills have been most important to your success? A: Being willing to learn as I go and take on new, sometimes intimidating challenges. Those “scary” tasks have often been where I’ve learned the most. Q: What part of your job are you most passionate about? A: Designing and problem-solving—working through challenges and finding practical solutions is the part of the job I enjoy most. Q: What do you like to do in your spare time? A: I enjoy needlepoint, reading, and traveling. I already have trips planned to the Bahamas and the Mediterranean this year, which I’m really looking forward to. #LKBEngineering #LKBEmployees #CivilEngineering #EnvironmentalEngineering
