That’s exactly what our Pour It Forward Farmers Market Tour is all about. This Earth Month, we’re supporting local farmers through our weigh-and-reward system—encouraging market-goers to stock up on fresh, local produce. The more you buy and weigh at our booth, the more bottles and cans you earn from us 🍓🥬 It’s simple: we’re not here to compete with farmers—we’re here to support them. This past Sunday, we brought the tour home to Bethesda, MD at the Bethesda Central Farm Market. It was raining, but we still showed up. Farmers don’t have a choice—and we were proud to be there for them. We kicked off the morning with 11 incredible local influencers and supporters—hosting breakfast at our office, sharing more about who we are, then walking to the market together to put it all into action! And…we’re not done yet. We love farmers. Just Ice Tea wouldn’t exist without our organic tea farmers in Mozambique, India, Egypt and China or organic honey, sugar and agave farmers in Brazil and Mexico. And of course we value the local American farmers who grow so much of the food we eat for our own sustenance and nutrition. We’ve always believed the folks who shop at Farmer’s Markets would be disproportionately interested in Just Ice Tea because of our emphasis on organic farming and chef-crafted recipes. But since our ingredients are sourced from around the world and distributed nationally, we don’t qualify as a local supplier for most Farmer’s Markets. So we asked ourselves, “How can we express support for local farmers, while also connecting with the consumers who would be most inclined to support our brand?” We found a way with our “Pour it Forward” tour – for Earth Month. Over the course of April, our teams are popping up in seven different Farmers Markets across the country encouraging people to buy more produce from local farmers. We bribe them with free tea – the more produce someone purchases and weighs at our booth, the more bottles and cans they receive. This works for the local farmers, because instead of competing with them, we are boosting their business. And it works for us because we get to give out samples to our target audience. We are thrilled that Just Ice Tea has been recognized by our largest customer, Whole Foods Market, as an All-Star Supplier. Our partnership with Whole Foods has enabled us to reach hundreds of millions of Americans and generate demand for millions of dollars of organic and Fair Trade ingredients. And of course, our success with Whole Foods creates a launch pad to spread to other retailers and sales channels. Today’s announcement is a wonderful recognition of the amazing work done by Melanie Knitzer, our Sales Director, whom I’ve worked with since 1998 (that’s not a typo) – yes 28 years of selling organic tea to Whole Foods (with a few short hiatuses!). Melanie’s passion for our purpose, her patience with challenging moments and people (including me occasionally!), and her professionalism have all served this partnership so well. While this award celebrates our success, we’ve certainly been through stressful moments too, and Melanie has handled those just as professionally. She has been supported over the years by great team members like Becca Ray, Cheryl R., and Ed Castro. It is also a testament to the team of partners Melanie oversees to make our Whole Foods relationship work -- our distributors, UNFI and Big Geyser Inc., and our decades-long broker partners at PRESENCE. Finally, great appreciation to our Whole Foods partners – Candice Price Ternus, David Lafferty, Dan Epley, and Jason Buechel for all their support.
