Automotive retail and motorsports giant Rick Hendrick is remaking his 90-plus dealerships’ service departments to be more like urgent care clinics — a strategic bet that faster, more personalized service will recapture the more than 50 percent of customers who defect within two years of making their purchase. The stores introduced the medical model mindset in October, telling Hendrick Automotive dealership leaders to run the group’s service appointment scheduling as if it were a “Hendrick Urgent Car Care.” The approach centers on giving personalized and timely service to create customer loyalty, said Roger Mesiemore, vice president of fixed operations for the 50-year-old group.
