Honored -- and a bit surprised! -- to be named the national Decarbonization Advocate of the Year by Ceres, Inc. for advancing an affordable, resilient economy. Grateful to Amna Khan, Anne L. Kelly, Zach Friedman, Neal Kemkar and the entire Ceres team often unglamorous work of building real coalitions in DC The work feels especially vital right now. Politics may shift, but the fundamentals don’t: energy demand is surging (AI doesn’t run on vibes); and the U.S. needs abundant, reliable, domestically built energy & the tools to manage emissions. At Heirloom, we’re scaling American-patented technology to pull CO2 out of the air -- and turning it into real infrastructure, real jobs, real investments & real protections in communities. But none of this works if we don’t get the community part right. The future gets built locally -- so 21st century infrastructure has to be built responsibly, with people, not to them. That includes how we think about power, water, emissions, and community reinvestment -- not as abstractions, but as real kitchen-table issues. I’ve found that whether you’re talking to Democrats in California or Republicans in Louisiana, things get more productive when you start with jobs, energy security, and a clear plan to actually build. Today we announced new investments in Heirloom from the Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ) and Chiyoda Corporation––an important signal that Direct Air Capture is becoming scalable, investable climate infrastructure. Why this matters: ‣ Strategic partners to deploy at scale DBJ brings publicly backed capital and Chiyoda adds global engineering and deployment expertise in CO₂ capture and utilization. ‣Japan’s carbon market is opening to Direct Air Capture Under Japan’s flagship carbon market,  DAC can generate verified credits that companies can use toward compliance, pairing climate integrity with cost-effective decarbonization. ‣ DAC as a fuels platform + storage solution DAC provides a high-purity CO₂ supply that can be permanently stored or used to produce low-carbon fuels that help hard-to-abate sectors decarbonize affordably. Together we’re driving down costs, scaling deployments, and strengthening the bridge between global DAC development and Japan’s growing carbon marketplace. Our gratitude handouts continue with Heirloom. Ahead of MCJ Summit last week, attendees had the chance to visit several MCJ portfolio companies for a behind-the-scenes look at their work. The Heirloom team offered a fascinating tour of their facility, showcasing how they’re scaling direct air capture (DAC) technology to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere using limestone.
