About us
Our story began in 1999 with two individual companies on separate continents with trailblazing entrepreneurs at their helms. Both shared similar goals—to streamline restaurant and hotel processes through intelligent technology. Both grew exponentially and became well-recognized brands in the technology sector—Fourth and HotSchedules. Then in July 2019, these two companies merged to fulfill one shared goal as Fourth. Today, we are a global leader in data-driven workforce and inventory technology for the retail, restaurant, and hospitality sectors. With over 20 years of expertise in data and analytics, only the Fourth Intelligence Platform empowers operators with predictive insights and real-time intelligence to make effective staffing and inventory decisions with speed and confidence. And with better decision-making in the palm of their hands, it’s easier than ever to maintain peak efficiency, improve razor-thin margins, and most importantly, deliver exceptional guest experiences. Fourth is trusted by over 15,000 customers across 100,000 sites globally with 2.5 million users, helping them conquer the day with confidence, whatever comes their way, every day.

Beyond the Hype: How Restaurants Are Improving Profitability with AI 📅 Today | 12:15–1:00 PM MT 📍 Grand Sonoran H+I Our CMO Nipul Chokshi sits down with: 🔹 Ann Johnson, CEO at Quality Brand Group 🔹 James Butler, Chief Strategy Officer at Chili's 🔹 Richard Lenderman, M.S., SPHR, COO at Fogo de Chão These operators aren't experimenting with AI — they're running it. Today they'll share what actually moved margin, how they got their teams to adopt it, and what it takes to scale across locations without losing consistency. We also just released the State of Restaurant Operations 2026 report (link in comments) with new data on what the top-performing operators do differently. The panel will bring that data to life. See you in the room. #RLC #RLC2026 #AIinRestaurants #RestaurantOperations #FourthAtRLC

We came to RLC with a question: What separates the most profitable restaurants from everyone else? Today we're releasing the answer. The State of Restaurant Operations 2026 is the first industry benchmark measuring how 100+ operators perform across four pillars: Forecasting, People, Execution, and Profitability. Two findings stood out: 1️⃣ Tool discipline is the #1 differentiator. Top-performing operators are 8x more likely than bottom performers to report full tool compliance across their locations. 2️⃣ The AI profitability signal is real. 44% of AI-adopting operators report margins above 13%, compared to just 15% of non-adopters. 👉 Download the full report: https://lnkd.in/eNQeXicF Find us at RLC this week: 🎤 Tomorrow (Tues 4/21) at 12:15 PM in the Grand Sonoran H+I — Beyond the Hype: How Restaurants Are Improving Profitability with AI featuring leaders from Chili's, Dunkin', and Fogo de Chão 🍹 Tomorrow evening — join us for a happy hour at the Tia Carmen Fire Pits, 6:00–9:00 PM: https://lnkd.in/eYTjsceC ☀️ Book a private 20-minute meeting with our team at the Sundeck Suite: https://lnkd.in/eWAsTH-h #RLC #RLC2026 #RestaurantOperations #AIinRestaurants #FourthAtRLC

Everyone's talking about AI in restaurants. We want to hear from the people actually doing it. "Beyond the Hype: How Restaurants Are Improving Profitability with AI" 📅 Tuesday, April 21 | 12:15-1:00 PM MST Our CMO Nipul Chokshi is moderating a conversation with: 🔹 Ann Johnson, CEO at Quality Brand Group 🔹 James Butler, Chief Strategy Officer at Chili's 🔹 Richard Lenderman, COO at Fogo de Chão Where AI actually moved margin. What scaled across locations and what didn't. How they got store teams on board. And what they'd do differently if they started over. This isn't a product pitch. It's operators being honest about what works. If you're at RLC, don't miss this one. 👉 See what else we have planned: fourth.com/rlc-2026 #RLC #RLC2026 #AIinRestaurants #RestaurantOperations #FourthAtRLC

Great work from our UK HR and Payroll expert Sam McNeil 👏 This was a serious piece of work - we're lucky to have you in the Fourth team.
I don't post often, but it's about time! I’ve just come through delivering a new, and first iteration of, a Benefits-in-Kind solution for Fourth UK HR & Payroll ahead of the 2026/27 tax year. From the outside, payrolling benefits sounds straightforward. In reality, it isn’t even close. This has been the most complex piece of work I’ve delivered in my career to date, not because of scale alone, but because of the depth of understanding it demanded. This wasn’t just building features. It meant getting deep into legislation, understanding how HMRC expects things to behave, and then translating that into something a system can actually calculate, period by period, across a tax year. Things that sound simple quickly aren’t: - non-cash earnings impacting tax without affecting net pay - Handling of different Benefit 'types' and the different Tax and NIC liabilities - 'Unhappy path' scenarios such as mid-year changes that need to reconcile to a single annual cash equivalent - rules like the 50% deduction limit shaping how tax is actually recovered The list truly goes on... There isn’t always a single “correct” answer either. A lot of this is interpretation, trade-offs, and making sure the outcome aligns with how payroll actually operates in practice. Massive credit to UK HR & Payroll engineering teams behind this. Building it properly required far more than just development effort. Personally, this has been one of the steepest learning curves I’ve had (and vs Auto-enrolment, that is saying something!), and easily the most demanding problem space I’ve worked in so far. And the journey doesn’t stop here. With mandatory payrolling on the horizon, the complexity only increases, more FPS data requirements (Over 100 new Data Items!), greater demand for automated calculations at payroll and benefit level, and a much higher expectation of seamless, real-time processing within payroll. For me, the next steps are looking to the mandatory payrolling in April 2027 and progressing the BIK solution to the best it can be. Another piece is understanding how AI can be applied meaningfully within this space, not in theory, but in solving the kinds of problems this project exposed. There’s a clear opportunity to reduce manual interpretation, improve validation, and give customers better visibility into how payroll outcomes are derived. I’m particularly interested in how we can bring this into Fourth iQ and how it evolves across the wider platform. What we’ve delivered lays a strong foundation. The next phase is about scaling this to meet the demands of mandatory payrolling. 2026/27 is going to be a big year for this space.
