Every child deserves a healthy, delicious future on a livable planet. Now serving over 1M students!

About us

Eat Real is the only national doctor-led, foodservice-approved nonprofit on a mission to put real food on the table—at school, at home, and in local and national policy. We believe every child deserves a healthy, delicious future on a livable planet, and public school cafeterias are the most impactful solution to solving America’s children’s health crisis. Through our award-winning K-12 certification program, we give foodservice leaders the framework and support they need to make school menus delicious, nutritious, and responsibly sourced. Together with a community of foodservice professionals, doctors, food advocates, chefs, and parents, we raise awareness about the power and urgency of serving real food at every meal. And from the cafeteria to the Capitol, we advocate for policies and standards that ensure every child has access to nourishing food. The cafeteria can change the future—for our kids, our communities, and our planet.

  • If you want to make a difference, you have to show up to the places where change is being made. We want to support school food heroes in making their menus more delicious and nutritious — so we show up to conferences across the country. We want to change the narrative around school food — so we show up to school cafeterias (and show off the great work we see). We believe every child deserves access to food that nourishes, not harms — so we show up to Washington D.C. Our team has been everywhere! Doing everything! Yes, sometimes, all at once! 😉 👇 From California to Minnesota to Georgia, we show up because we want every child to have a healthier future. Sometimes, change is made on the big stages. But it’s also made in the small conversations. Here’s to many more meaningful conversations this year! #EatRealWithUs

  • Join us in celebrating School Lunch Hero Day! 🍎💪 School food professionals across the country are tasked with a very important job – feeding our nation's kids. Often, this work is done with tight budgets, limited resources, and a ton of pressure. Endless thank yous and gratitude to the people showing up every day to feed the next generation. And special shoutout to Kat Soltanmorad, RDN at Tahoe Truckee Unified School District for completing her program's final report meeting. 👀 #SchoolLunchHeroDay

There’s no better way to start School Lunch Hero Day than with one of the best in the country. Kat Soltanmorad, RDN at Tahoe Truckee Unified School District is the kind of leader who reminds you what’s possible when someone truly cares about what ends up on a child’s plate. This morning marked her final Eat Real Certified report meeting. Big news coming soon. 💫 Today is about something bigger. It’s about the school food leaders across the country who show up every day to do an incredibly hard job, often with limited resources, tight budgets, and a lot of pressure, and still find a way to serve meals that nourish kids. These are the people quietly shaping the health of the next generation. They don’t always get the spotlight. But they should. Today, we celebrate you. Happy School Lunch Hero Day to the ones doing the real work. 🧡 #SchoolLunchHeroDay #SchoolLunch

Major fan girl moment. 🤩 I’ve long believed Helena Bottemiller Evich’s Food Fix newsletter is one of the most important spaces for food policy on the internet, so getting to join her as the first guest on the American Dish podcast was a real honor. 30 million kids eat school meals every day. That makes school cafeterias one of the most powerful forces shaping kids’ health in this country. 💪 We talked about why school meals are one of the biggest levers we have, and what it actually takes to change them. I’m thankful for every opportunity to share the incredible change our school food service partners are driving every day. We covered: • What’s really happening in school cafeterias today • Why ultra-processed food became the norm • What it looks like to transition to real, fresh meals at scale • And why this is about systems, not individual choices This is solvable. We’re seeing it firsthand at Eat Real Certified with districts across the country proving that better food can work within real budgets and real constraints. Give it a listen and let me know what resonated. 💭

  • We believe the fastest, most scalable solution to America's children's health crisis is already in our communities — the school cafeteria. Since 2019, we’ve been working with school food heroes across the country to transform their menus to be delicious, nutritious, and responsibly sourced. Our work has always been about inviting everyone to the table — no matter where they are in their real food journey. So far, we’ve reached over 1 MILLION students across 21 states with our doctor-led, science-backed, foodservice-approved certification program. But there’s still more room at our table. "Eat real with us" is a call to join a movement that's already working. Bring your school district. Bring your community. Bring your resources. Pull up a chair. Feeding kids and keeping them healthy is something we should all agree on. Every kid in every zip code deserves a nourishing school meal. Come join us! 💗 eatreal.org
