GM has been building vehicles designed to help our soldiers in the field for more than a century. GM Defense turned to the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 to build the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV). The ISV adapts GM’s commercial technology to meet U.S. Army requirements for rapid mobility across complex terrain. Enter Travis Collier. The former Air Force mechanic is a Process Technician at GM Defense who was in Concord, North Carolina when they built the first ISV production facility. He's been a core member of the team ever since — making sure soldiers are getting what they need from the Colorado-based military vehicle. "They call me eagle-eye here, because I see things before they become issues," he said of his quality control work. “My attention to detail really started from the military, and I bring that to my work ethic here. Like I say, when it leaves here, my name is on it.” With 90% of its parts from the Colorado, the ISV is popular among soldiers because it's familiar. Collier said they drive the Colorado at home and the ISV at work. “They're pushing everything to the limit out there,” he said. “They like the idea that if something does break, they can get a part to fix it. It's like a normal truck underneath the skin, which makes it easier to work on.” Collier said he takes pride in helping build a vehicle that helps get troops safely home after a mission. “I love taking care of my brothers and sisters in arms. I feel honored to be able to work on this kind of equipment.” To learn more about GM Defense, visit the link here: https://s.chevy.com/sryyfh

From the early vehicles of World War I and World War II, to lunar vehicles, and advanced vehicles of the future, Chevrolet and GM Defense have been the ultimate allies of our nation for 111 years. It’s the type of storied past that draws so many veterans to GM. Army Special Forces veteran and GM Defense Senior Program Manager, Light Tactical Wheeled Vehicles, Tim Fuller, knew about GM’s long defense legacy long before the end of his 27 years in service through his dad, who worked at GM. “GM has supported our nation in every major war since its inception," Tim said. "That meant a lot to me as I was leaving the military and looking where to go next.” GM’s historical impact continues with the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) based on the rugged Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 platform. Offering high performance, reliability and safety, the ISV is a versatile, expeditionary, ultra-light tactical vehicle that enhances Soldier capability — especially in off-road situations. Developed with input from active-duty soldiers, the ISV benefits from Tim’s decades of service as well. “The veteran experience really taught me what it was like to be an operator using the vehicles in both peacetime and combat,” he said. “It really gave me an appreciation and understanding for the attention to ensuring the vehicle was right for soldiers.” Tim said his work with GM Defense made for a smooth transition after retiring from military service. “In this chapter of my life, it’s incredibly rewarding to continue to work in this environment and develop the best products for our military,” he said. “GM is right there with our service men and women, getting important feedback at Army exercises that helps inform our work.” To learn more about the ISV and other vehicles and solutions from GM Defense visit the link here: https://s.chevy.com/cn48gm

Since 1914, GM has answered our nation’s call as the largest commercial provider of military vehicles in history. GM built hundreds of thousands of Chevrolet-based military trucks during World War II and continues its commitment to soldiers with the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV). Based on the rugged Chevy Colorado ZR2, the ISV leverages commercial technology to meet U.S. Army requirements. Also used by allied nations, the ISV features robust off-road capabilities to significantly improve tactical mobility across a range of military operations. U.S. Army veteran and Associate Director, Growth Operations & Customer Engagement for GM Defense, Matt Boyer, is one of the many veterans who supported the evolution of the ISV program. He saw the need for the ISV when he was in the Army, eventually joining GM Defense and seeing the vehicle become a reality. “It’s a great opportunity and a big point of pride to deliver this innovative solution to soldiers that provides greater mobility,” Matt said, recalling his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. “I remember being in their boots, and I know what it was like before the ISV. The next best option was to walk or run. That’s why we call it a better boot.” Matt said soldier feedback is important in the ISV development process. Soldiers test the technology in near-combat scenarios and provide feedback that we use to customize the vehicle to meet their needs. “Our team works closely with soldiers to understand what works and what can be changed to meet their needs now and in the future.” Much like our military clients, GM Defense is proud to deliver unmatched innovation and proven performance for the country.
