Beyond Hospice

About us

If you’re looking for a career that brings purpose to your everyday life, then you’re in the right place. At By The Bay Health, we live true to the philosophy of being of service to others by providing high-quality, compassionate health care services to those who need it most. Our rich tradition of serving communities across the Bay Area is underscored by the incredible growth we’ve seen over the past decade as we enter new service areas and expand care options for our patients -- and we’re looking for compassionate, dedicated individuals who want to take part in that growth. At By The Bay Health, our teams of physicians, nurses, home health aides, and other healthcare professionals work alongside patients and families during some of the most vulnerable moments of the human experience. Our Hospice, Palliative, and Home Health care teams understand the importance of building strong, trusting relationships and providing expert care for those nearing the end-of-life, experiencing chronic pain, or those who need a little extra help receiving care at home – and as a purpose-driven non-profit, we stand proud that no patient is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Over the past 45 years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to building an environment where employees can thrive and build meaningful careers with true impact. Our model of care is built for flexibility and opportunities for growth. Our affiliation with UCSF brings access to world renowned expertise for all of our clinicians. We are an organization found and led by nurses who understand the unique challenges health professionals face in their careers. More than a third of our staff have worked with us for more than five years and one staff member, we are proud to say, was part of the founding team in 1975. Whatever your role with us at BTBH, you will be supported by a collaborative and diverse group of colleagues who share the same values.

  • Thank you to all the network members of the Sonoma County Section on Aging who attended the mixer last night. The By the Bay Health team was honored to be your hosts for the evening.

It was a pleasure to host the Sonoma County Section on Aging mixer on a beautiful spring evening. The gathering brought together agencies, organizations, and community leaders committed to a shared mission to strengthen collaboration to better serve older adults across Sonoma County. Conversations like these are essential to advancing resources, support, and advocacy for the most vulnerable members of our communities. I'm proud that By The Bay Health is part of this dedicated network working to promote the development, coordination, and implementation of services that ensure older adults receive the care and dignity they deserve.

  • We’re thrilled to welcome Pamela Galley to the By the Bay Health leadership team! Pamela brings exceptional experience and a deep commitment to compassionate care. As we continue strengthening our leadership bench, we’re building the vision, expertise, and momentum needed to expand our impact across Northern California. At By the Bay Health, our focus remains clear: supporting and growing our ability to care for the most vulnerable members of our communities. Pamela’s leadership will help us advance that mission and ensure we continue delivering high-quality, community-based care where it’s needed most. Please join us in welcoming Pamela to the team!

I’m thrilled to welcome Pamela Galley to By The Bay Health as our new Chief Growth & Transformation Officer. Pam is an exceptional and visionary healthcare leader with more than 25 years of experience driving growth, operational excellence, and large-scale transformation within complex health systems. Over more than two decades Kaiser Permanente, she served in numerous executive leadership roles, most recently as CEO of two hospitals and as Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente’s largest Northern California service area. Throughout her career, Pam has demonstrated a rare combination of strategic vision, operational rigor, and deeply collaborative leadership. She has led high-performing teams through significant transformation, strengthened performance across multi-site operations, and consistently delivered results in highly complex environments. Beyond her executive roles, she is a trusted voice on regional boards and public platforms, and a champion of cross-sector partnerships that extend beyond healthcare to advance whole-person, community-based care. • We are deeply saddened by the passing of Doug McConnell on January 13. Doug was the beloved longtime host of Bay Area Backroads, Open Road with Doug McConnell and Friends, and a longtime friend of By the Bay Health. For many years, he generously served as the Master of Ceremonies for our annual gala, lending his warmth, professionalism, and unmistakable enthusiasm to support our mission and the SF Bay Area community we serve. Throughout his remarkable career, as a staunch environmental advocate, Doug dedicated his life to telling meaningful stories about the world’s most beautiful natural places. He inspired countless people to explore, appreciate, and protect the outdoors, and he brought that same passion to advocating for organizations making a difference close to home. Doug was truly a friend to all. His presence filled every room with positivity, curiosity, and joy, and his impact will be felt for years to come. He will be deeply missed. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work.

  • We’re proud to see our CEO advocating at the national level for community-based hospice and palliative care. Thank you for elevating frontline voices, championing integrity in our field, and working collaboratively to protect compassionate, local care for patients and families. Your leadership and commitment to advancing quality, ethical care make a meaningful difference.

I had the privilege of being invited to meet with Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), to share candid examples of what’s working, and what’s not, within the Hospice and Home Health industries across California.   I was joined by fellow nonprofit NPHI member leaders - Sarah McSpadden, CEO from The Elizabeth Hospice (San Diego), Kiran Shah, CEO from VNA Health (Santa Barbara), Molly Corbett, CEO from Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice (Ventura), and Cathy Conway, CEO from Hospice of Santa Cruz County (Santa Cruz), and leadership from AccentCare, Bristol Hospice, VITAS Healthcare, and Providence - at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. Together, we shared our frontline experiences and discussed many issues affecting our day-to-day work, including why cases of fraud and abuse impact not just individual compliant organizations, but the integrity of the entire industry, and especially our patients, families, and caregivers' lives!   This session, coordinated by the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), is a powerful example of collaboration and how coming together to protect community-based care can ensure access to compassionate, local hospice and home health services for generations to come.   Thank you to Mehmet OzKimberly Brandt (CMS COO), and Chris Klomp (CMS Deputy Administrator) for welcoming us and opening the lines of communication.  Your openness to hearing our collective voices, and genuine interest in finding solutions for the fraud and abuse occurring within our industry was apparent and appreciated!
