We are deeply saddened by the passing of Doug McConnell on January 13. Doug was the beloved longtime host of Bay Area Backroads, Open Road with Doug McConnell and Friends, and a longtime friend of By the Bay Health. For many years, he generously served as the Master of Ceremonies for our annual gala, lending his warmth, professionalism, and unmistakable enthusiasm to support our mission and the SF Bay Area community we serve. Throughout his remarkable career, as a staunch environmental advocate, Doug dedicated his life to telling meaningful stories about the world’s most beautiful natural places. He inspired countless people to explore, appreciate, and protect the outdoors, and he brought that same passion to advocating for organizations making a difference close to home. Doug was truly a friend to all. His presence filled every room with positivity, curiosity, and joy, and his impact will be felt for years to come. He will be deeply missed. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and work.
