A heartfelt thank you to the Washington Winter Show and to Jonathan Willen and Puffin Travers for their incredible support of Building Bridges Across the River. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to our mission and the communities we serve east of the Anacostia River. Today, Sarah and Michael from our Development team, alongside our President & CEO Scott Kratz, had the opportunity to share updates from across our work, including our Comcast Lift Zone, the 11th Street Bridge Park as it prepares to break ground in just a few months, our newest partners Life Pieces To Masterpieces and Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School, the return of Food & Farm Fridays beginning tomorrow, the newly named WC Smith Theater, and the beautiful new Washington School for Girls building that is bringing all students together on one campus. Thank you for investing in a stronger, healthier, and more equitable future for our community. We are honored to have you as partners in this work. #BuildingBridgesDC #THEARCDC #WashingtonWinterShow

On May 5 we celebrated the naming of the WC Smith Theater at THEARC. We're thankful to Building Bridges Across the River for honoring us in such a meaningful way. WC Smith Chair Chris Smith and Skip McMahon founded THEARC, and since it's opening in 2005, the theater has served as the heart of the campus. This theater has welcomed performances like the Washington Ballet’s Nutcracker, hosted the launch of Michelle Obama’s Healthy Foods Initiative, and served as the backdrop for countless graduations, spelling bees, performances, celebrations, and community gatherings. Special thanks to the students at Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys and the dancer from The Washington Ballet for their great performances at the naming. Building Bridges is our nonprofit partner, and over the years the company and our employees have supported the organization with more than $15 million in financial and in-kind contributions. We're proud that THEARC has serve as a home for residents, artists, students and families living east of the Anacostia River.
