  • One of the clearest themes emerging from this year’s American Public Transportation Association Mobility Conference was that autonomous vehicles are no longer being discussed as a distant concept — they are increasingly being viewed as an active component of the mobility ecosystem today and a critical pillar of how communities will move in the future.   Across keynote sessions, panel discussions, technology showcases, and policy conversations, the overall sentiment was that autonomous mobility is rapidly transitioning from experimentation into implementation — and that public transportation agencies willing to lead now will help define the standards, policies, operational models, and customer expectations for the next generation of mobility. #APTAmobility26

30 days to go! The world is coming to the Bay Area this summer, and transit is one of the best ways to get in on the action. 2026 FIFA World Cup matches at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium (Levi’s Stadium) will bring fans from across the globe to the region, and BART and our regional transit partners are preparing to help get them there. BART will offer special limited-express service after midnight for evening matches and will also run long trains and have extra staff and security on hand to help fans and families travel to matches, watch parties, and related events. Special announcements will be made onboard trains about where to exit, and directional signs will be posted in stations to help visitors and occasional riders navigate the system. BART will also deploy extra lighting at key station parking lots to enhance safety for fans returning from evening matches. Find guidance on taking transit to fan zones, watch parties, and more events by visiting bart.gov/fifa. Get excited, Bay Area Host Committee!

  • This month, APTA CEO Paul Skoutelas joined Los Angeles Metro for the launch of their three new subway stations. The stations connect more communities like Beverly Hills to downtown LA businesses and cultural hubs, reduce traffic, and generate more good-paying jobs in the region. The new subway will significantly reduce travel time. A journey from Union Station to Wilshire/La Cienega that would typically take up to 45 minutes by car will take just 21 minutes. #ThatsTransit By fall 2027, the line will stretch nine miles west, ending in Westwood near the UCLA campus, reports Los Angeles Times. • APTA Weighs in on BUILD America 250 Act Dear APTA Members, APTA delivered a letter today to leaders of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure detailing APTA’s top priorities for the five-year surface transportation authorization legislation, H.R. 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act. The key messages are: • The BUILD America 250 Act is a great first step. We look forward to working with you and the Committee on Appropriations to ensure that the BUILD America 250 Act builds upon current investment levels (including guaranteed funding) for public transit and passenger rail to drive job creation, innovation, and our economy. Specifically, we urge Congress to invest $138 billion for public transit and $130 billion for passenger rail over five years. • APTA applauds the BUILD America 250 Act’s many policy initiatives to accelerate project delivery by eliminating statutory and regulatory barriers to advancing public transit and passenger rail projects. • We will continue to work with the Committee on critical policy areas of significant concern, including establishing a Consolidated State Block Grant Program; limiting the Federal contribution for bus procurements; and imposing new mandates on States and local public transit agencies. The APTA letter can be viewed here > https://lnkd.in/egijc9mS Thank you to APTA’s Legislative Committee for the hard work in developing and advocating for APTA’s 2026 Surface Transportation Authorization Recommendations, seen here > https://lnkd.in/eC3rsann The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure bill is a great first step, but we have more work to do! Sincerely, APTA President and CEO Paul Skoutelas
