Harnessing the power of people living with viral hepatitis to achieve its elimination.
About us
The World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) is a patient-led and patient driven non-governmental organisation (NGO), whose membership is comprised of organisations from across the world working in the field of viral hepatitis. WHA provides global leadership to drive action to help eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. We work with governments, members and other key partners to support and elevate the voices of people living with viral hepatitis, to raise the profile of viral hepatitis and to help establish comprehensive hepatitis strategies which have robust prevention measures and access to affordable diagnostics and treatment.

*3,500 Lives Today. 3,500 Tomorrow. When Does the Murder End?* Sorry for the late reflection but I have hundreds of msgs and emails for support and engagement from the communities. While many of you have reached out to congratulate me on "successfully" chairing sessions and delivering "powerful" speeches. Thx but... I am not interested in being a well-spoken figurehead for a community that is being systematically ignored. If my words do not translate into a radical shift in how we fight, then every minute I spent on that stage was a waste of my time and a betrayal of yours. This Is Not a Health Challenge—It Is a Crime The WHO Global Reporting 2025 is not just a document; it is a death warrant signed by global apathy. The data is an indictment of every government and business leader represented at this summit: 1.3 million souls are lost every year to viral hepatitis. 3,500 people are dying every single day. While we sat in climate-controlled rooms in Bangkok, thousands gasped their last breaths from a disease we know how to stop. Let’s call this what it is: a global human rights violation. We have the vaccines. We have the diagnostics. We have the clinical guidelines, and for Hepatitis C, we have a literal cure. When the tools to save a life exist but are withheld by bureaucracy, high costs, or political cowardice, that is not a "medical challenge"—it is a choice to let people die. The Shackles of Stigma and discrimination We cannot ignore the killer that doesn't show up in a blood test: Stigma and discrimination. Across the globe, discrimination is the second virus. It is the prejudice that keeps people from getting tested, the shame that keeps them from seeking care, and the bias that allows policy makers to underfund our response. When a person loses their job or their dignity because of a manageable infection, the system is not just broken; it is cruel. We must dismantle the walls of discrimination as aggressively as we dismantle the virus itself. A Call to Action: The Resistance Starts Now I am calling on the community, the innovators, and the policy makers with a conscience to stop being polite. Be Angry: Anger is the only rational response to 3,500 preventable deaths a day. Channel that rage into a force that cannot be ignored. Be Innovative: If the gates of access are locked, we will kick them down. We need to bypass the systems that have failed us and create new pathways to care. Never Lose Hope: Our hope is not a soft wish; it is a battle cry. We will eliminate this disease because we refuse to allow the world to continue without us. I am looking for the bold. I am looking for those brave enough to stand out and fight for our fundamental right to live. My performance at the Summit was not the finale; it was a declaration of war against apathy. There is more coming from me. I just have these people I need to address #peoplelivingwithhepatitis and #peoplewithlivedexperience Join me, repost it, or get out of our way.

WHA is proud to have received the support of Gilead Sciences to make #WHS2026 possible – and to be working alongside them on BehinD the SilenCe. Through photography and audio, the campaign brings to life experiences that words alone cannot capture, to reveal the truths and emotions too often left unsaid by people living with viral hepatitis. Together, we are harnessing the transformative power of art to give voice to the unspoken. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/ek37YfFg
