We make good food joyful, accessible and affordable for everyone, every day.

About us

Over 150 years old and still going strong, we’re the UK’s second-biggest retailer. Every day, the nation shops with us because they know they’ll get affordable, good food and excellent service. We focus on great value and convenient shopping across our family of brands, from Argos, Nectar and Habitat to Sainsbury’s Bank, Smart Charge and Tu. What’s next for Sainsbury’s? We've put food back at the heart of our business and we’re taking Sainsbury’s to the next level. We’re investing in technology and people and we’re thinking bigger about how we attract and connect with our customers, while doing everything we can to create a more resilient UK food system.

  • This Mental Health Awareness Week, our colleagues are joining the conversation around mental wellbeing and the importance of taking action for yourself, for someone else, and for all of us. When we take action together, we help create a culture where people feel supported, included, and able to speak openly. In our latest blog, some of our colleagues share their own personal experiences and reflections on mental health. Thank you to each of them for helping to encourage important conversations across our teams. Take a moment to read their stories below.👇 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealth #sainsburys

At Sainsbury’s, inclusion sits at the heart of how we lead. It isn’t an add-on. It’s woven into our culture and is a fundamental driver of our progress. Our Chief Executive, Simon Roberts, was recently featured in The i, the digital magazine from WiHTL & Diversity in Retail (Issue Two), discussing why inclusion remains core to our strategy. Simon shares why our commitment to diversity and inclusion is a direct driver of business performance. From supporting women’s health and long-term conditions to empowering cultural communities, it’s about making sure every voice is heard and acted upon. • More than 1 in 6 parents in the UK say they have put their children to bed hungry, or without enough food, at least once a week.    That needs to change.    That’s why, together with Comic Relief, we’re launching Let’s Put Hunger to Bed to support families facing food insecurity across the UK and shine a light on what too many are experiencing behind closed doors.    Building on more than 27 years of partnership with Comic Relief, we’re stepping up our ambition to go further in tackling childhood hunger - with a plan to raise £30m by 2030, helping us to donate a total of 120 million meals to children and families across the UK since 2022.    At the heart of the campaign is a powerful new film, featuring a poem written by Richard Curtis and inspired by the lived experiences of parents and children affected by food insecurity.    For many families, difficult choices are part of everyday life - from skipping meals to stretching what food they have for as long as possible. No family should have to face that.    Together, we want to help ensure more families across the UK can access the food they need, so no child goes to bed hungry.    To find out more about how Comic Relief and Sainsbury’s are working together to help put hunger to bed, visit: https://bit.ly/3Rexm1n     #LetsPutHungerToBed #ComicRelief T&Cs: Donations will go to support our ambition to donate the equivalent of 120 million meals by end of 2030. Since 2022, Sainsbury’s has donated the equivalent of 60 million meals as part of its partnership with Comic Relief, and is now aiming to double that amount to donate the equivalent of 120 million meals, to be distributed by Comic Relief’s funded partners. Comic Relief is a registered charity in England & Wales (no. 326568) and Scotland (SC039730).

Hot off the press! We’re celebrating a major milestone in our partnership with Costa Coffee with the opening of the 50th Costa Coffee store inside a Sainsbury’s supermarket. The new store builds on our successful partnership, launched in 2024, and is now open in our Leicester North Superstore: https://lnkd.in/ebAhCaaF. Together with Costa Coffee, we’re bringing handcrafted coffee and freshly baked pastries to more customers, while supporting local jobs and investment with eight new barista roles. To mark the opening, the Costa Coffee team surprised early customers with free reusable cups. Our partnership continues to grow, with plans to open at least 14 more Costa Coffee stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets this year. Grounds for celebration. • Great British berries, brought to you by Sainsbury’s 🍓   This week, we became the number one buyer of British berries for the season so far, according to official data released from British Berry Growers - purchasing 305 tonnes of berries in the last week alone.   This follows the expansion of our long‑term supplier partnerships earlier this year, giving British growers the confidence to plan and invest for the future. It also means we can bring more British produce to our customers, working with our British berry suppliers early in the season to make sure customers can enjoy British berries as soon as possible.   But don’t just take it our word for it - watch and hear from Sandy at NEW FOREST FRUIT, one of our brilliant suppliers, on the benefits of partnership.

  • Food waste is not inevitable, it’s something we can change. With our sustainability strategy, Plan for Better, our focus is on reducing waste at every stage, from how food is sourced and sold to how surplus is shared or repurposed. The result is real impact, fewer tonnes wasted, millions of meals reaching communities, and emissions reduced through circular solutions.♻️ It’s about making better use of good food, keeping it in circulation, and finding smarter ways to ensure less goes to waste. #StopFoodWasteDay #PlanForBetter #sainsburys
