One of the defining questions of our industry. Hear from Make's Mariangela Iodice at Clerkenwell Design Week on the ways AI can support architectural creativity without displacing the expertise behind it.
AI is rapidly reshaping architecture. But where does human creativity stand? During Clerkenwell Design Week, join us at the modulyss showroom for a panel discussion on the role of AI in design. Together with leading voices from the architecture and design community, we explore how artificial intelligence can support creativity and efficiency without replacing human expertise. A pleasure to take The London Society around Hornsey Town Hall and our thanks for the lovely write-up that followed. "Reuse is not just about retaining façades or celebrating history. It is about finding new roles for old structures in a way that supports everyday life. Housing, workspace, culture and hospitality are not separate from civic life. They are part of it." Well put.
Hornsey Town Hall: from disrepair to civic revival What happens when a building at the heart of a community is left to fall apart? On our recent visit to Hornsey Town Hall, some of those joining us remembered exactly that. Water pouring through the roof. A grand piano left beneath it. A civic landmark losing its place in everyday life. Today, that same building is being carefully brought back into use. In our latest blog, we explore how this Art Deco town hall has been restored and reimagined. Not as a museum piece, but as a working part of the city again, with homes, workspace, a hotel and community spaces all layered into its historic fabric. Our tour was led by Katy Ghahremani of Make Architects and James Morgan of Heyne Tillett Steel, who demonstrated what adaptive reuse can look like in practice. Detailed, complex and still evolving. But the bigger question is not just about one building. Across London, many civic spaces face the same challenge. If their original purpose no longer fits, what should they become? Hornsey Town Hall offers one answer. Keep the history. Change the use. Make it part of everyday life again. At The London Society, this is central to our work. We open up places like this so Londoners can see change happening first hand and take part in the conversation about what comes next. 👉 Read the full blog and look at more upcoming events on our website: https://lnkd.in/eGbpSAMC #London #TheLondonSociety #BuiltEnvironment #AdaptiveReuse #Heritage #Housing #UrbanRegeneration #CivicLife

This Earth Day, we're proud to back Viritopia's open letter calling for living walls and vertical greening to be formally recognised as green infrastructure in UK national planning policy. Make Partner stuart fraser has signed the letter to the Minister for Housing and Planning, Matthew Pennycook MP, on behalf of the practice. Living walls are so much more than a design feature. They're functional climate infrastructure, delivering the measurable environmental and resilience outcomes our cities urgently need, from cooling urban heat islands to improving air quality and supporting biodiversity. Explicit recognition in national planning policy would unlock their potential at scale and help deliver the measurable environmental outcomes our cities urgently need. Read the letter and find out more via the link in the comments 🔗 Our co-signatories include: Muse, University of Portsmouth, Carbon Sense, Growing Revolution, Terapia Urbana - Living Walls & Urban Greening Systems, Reid Brewin Architects, MAPLE SUNSCREENING LIMITED, Pritchard & Pritchard Ltd.
