  • Scientific models are powerful, but they only become real industry assets when non‑modelling experts can use them easily. That’s why turning complex science into intuitive digital tools matters. At #SPAROS, we work with our clients to translate scientific models into usable decision‑support tools tailored to their specific needs and communication goals. We’re pleased to share a new case study now available in the Digital Nutrition by SPAROS section of our website: our collaboration with Veramaris on the Omega‑3 Deposition Model (O3D). O3D is Veramaris’ cloud‑based tool that helps users determine appropriate dietary inclusion levels of EPA and DHA to achieve target Omega‑3 levels in salmon fillets. SPAROS supported Veramaris throughout the development process: from translating the scientific model into a robust nutritional engine, to co‑designing the user interface and implementing the web application. 👉 Explore the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/e6r7cpRM You can also access the O3D model directly via the Veramaris website, and join their collective effort to define EPA and DHA levels in feed that meet consumer needs for farm-raised salmon, rich in Omega-3: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eD6nBgpB

Silva Bruno Correa da Silva and Massango, at EPAGRI, evaluated Nile tilapia fed different commercial diets with similar crude protein levels but different amino acid profiles. Feeds deficient in essential amino acids, including tryptophan, resulted in lower final weight, highlighting the 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐒ᵀᴹ is a digital nutritional simulation tool used by producers to evaluate, within hours, the expected biological and economic impact of different amino acid profiles under their specific production scenarios. By isolating the nutritional effects from management and environmental variability, FEEDNETICSᵀᴹ complements on‑farm feed evaluation and supports farm teams with formulation benchmarking and more informed feed‑performance discussions. 🎥 Watch the 3‑𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐒ᵀᴹ 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 that replicates this study and explores the 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬. • 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡, 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: 32% 𝐯𝐬 35% 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 Similar growth does not always mean similar economic outcomes. Testing scenarios digitally before running farm trials can help reduce trial‑and‑error, focus experimental work, and support more informed formulation and positioning decisions. #FEEDNETICSᵀᴹ is a web-based decision support tool that complements on‑farm work by allowing users to explore and compare production scenarios in a virtual environment. 🎥 In this 3‑minute use case, we use FEEDNETICSᵀᴹ to evaluate the growth performance and economic outcomes for the following tilapia farming scenarios: ·        compare 32% Vs 35% protein feeds under the same farming conditions ·        compare performance across different temperature profiles These examples show how differences in feed specifications may lead to different levels of production efficiency, even when growth appears similar. Watch the use case video below.

Ten years ago, Riasearch was founded on a demanding premise: innovation in aquaculture must be tested, measured, and validated under controlled conditions. Since 2016, our work has focused on designing and conducting in vivo trials, optimizing recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), and generating robust performance data for feeds, ingredients, and technologies. Each project added more than results. It added methodology. It refined protocols. It strengthened the bridge between research and industry. Over this decade, Riasearch has evolved into a specialized Contract Research Organization within the SPAROS, Lda ecosystem, combining experimental infrastructure, nutritional expertise, and digital monitoring to support evidence-based development in the blue economy. Ten years represent accumulated knowledge, trusted partnerships, and scientific discipline. And we continue with the same conviction that shaped our first trials: Innovation only creates impact when it is validated. #RIASEARCH #AquacultureResearch #RAS #BlueEconomy #ScientificValidation #10Years

  • 𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐒 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐨𝐝: 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐞 SPAROS is pleased to announce the launch of #𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐨𝐝, a next-generation microdiet developed specifically for Atlantic cod larvae. Emerging from the EarlyCOD project, WINCod addresses some of the main bottlenecks in cod hatcheries: early mortality, skeletal deformities, and variability in juvenile quality. Designed for early co-feeding protocols, WINCod is intended to be used in combination with cryoplankton (frozen live plankton), supporting larvae through the critical first feeding and weaning phases. Extensive trials show improved larval robustness, reduced skeletal anomalies, and healthier organ development—translating into more predictable and controllable hatchery outcomes. By strengthening larvae at early stages, WINCod also helps reduce reliance on traditional live feeds, contributing to simpler and more robust hatchery operations. The formulation reflects years of targeted R&D combined with industrial-scale validation, ensuring both biological performance and practical applicability. WINCod is available in 150, 300, and 500 µm sizes and is already being used by early adopters in Norway. The product is ready for deployment in commercial hatcheries, with SPAROS providing technical support for protocol optimisation. With WINCod, SPAROS continues to bridge research and real-world application—supporting more sustainable and cost-effective cod aquaculture. 👉 For technical details or orders: 📧 joaohenriques@sparos.pt | luisconceicao@sparos.pt #aquaculture #codfarming #hatchery #larvalnutrition #microdiets #earlylifestage #fishnutrition #sustainableaquaculture
