Today was visiting the gorgeous Forest outings coffee shop and bakery that proudly sells herbal and non-caffeinated Plūkt TEA from Latvia Māra Lieplapa. Their determined journey to Korea is one of my favourite success stories of Latvian products here. Also, just a nice reminder that my job has some tangible presence.

🚀 Latvia has issued its very first MiCA licence - to BlockBen SIA for the provision of crypto-asset services! The newly obtained licence will enable BlockBen SIA to offer all permitted crypto-asset services in other EU countries in line with the procedure specified in the MiCA Regulation. 🎯 Latvijas Banka encourages companies seeking authorisation to take advantage of free consultations during the pre-licensing stage. Experts from Latvijas Banka offer guidance on the applicable legal framework, required documents, and conduct an initial compliance assessment. Last week, I had the privilege of representing Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns as part of the Latvian delegation at Korea Fintech Week 2025, organized by Latvijas Investīciju un attīstības aģentūra - LIAA. Our days in Seoul were filled with invaluable meetings, discussions, and insights. We had the opportunity to: - Connect with Korean and international partners, investors, and ecosystem leaders; - Share Latvia’s strengths as a dynamic EU fintech hub; - Identify promising areas for Latvia–Korea cooperation such as digital payments & open banking, AI-driven financial services, and startup–corporate collaboration. A particular highlight was attending the Embassy of Latvia’s official reception during Korean Fintech Week 2025. My sincere thanks to Janis Berzins, Ambassador of Latvia to Korea, Martins Baumanis, and the entire Embassy team for organizing an outstanding evening dedicated to fostering financial and business opportunities between Latvia and Korea. Their professionalism and dedication exemplify how Latvian diplomacy can meaningfully support our country’s international business presence.
