Today in Ogallala, Nebraska, we watched Deb Armknecht become the first person in America connected to the internet through the BEAD program. It’s hard to overstate what this moment means. After years of policy debate, planning, and anticipation, BEAD stopped being an acronym and became a real broadband connection for an American family. Deb’s home sits 11 miles from the nearest tower. Through Vistabeam's deployment of Tarana Wireless' G2 platform, she’s now getting 800/200 Mbps service, which is 8x the download and 10x the upload speeds BEAD requires. That kind of performance at that distance is what makes next-generation Fixed Wireless Access (ngFWA) such a powerful tool for closing the rural connectivity gap. Enormous congratulations to Matt Larsen and the entire Vistabeam team. You built this. To the Nebraska Broadband Office and Governor Jim Pillen’s team: thank you for moving with urgency and proving that BEAD can deliver fast when a state is organized and focused on outcomes. To the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and Assistant Secretary Arielle Roth: thank you for your leadership on the BEAD program.
