Tomorrow is the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Michael Hingson shares his thoughts on this year's WebAIM Million data. Web complexity jumped 22.5% in a single year, reversing years of gradual improvement. Why? The barriers driving it aren't new, or even that sophisticated: Low contrast, missing alt text, unlabeled forms, empty links. The same fixable issues we've known for years are compounding at a scale manual processes alone can't keep up with. The problem isn't knowledge. It's process. Hingson's perspective: it's not about choosing between AI automation and human expertise. It's about integrating both into how things are built. AI that handles repeatable issues at scale. Developers catching problems before they ship. Real users who rely on assistive technology validating what actually works. This is worth a read for GAAD. The Amputee Coalition has been empowering people with limb loss and limb difference through resources, support, and advocacy since 1986. For the 5.6 million Americans living with limb loss or limb difference, small design decisions become real barriers — buttons too small to tap with one hand, interactions that require precise cursor control, forms that time out before a task is finished. This community adapts to the world every single day. The web should be the easy part. Whitney Doyle, MNM, CNP, CP, their Director of Operations and Capacity Building, brought that reality to accessiBe's Inclusive Product Advisory Board — and it's shaping how we build Her feature is the sixth in our series for the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day — spotlighting the disability leaders, advocates, and technologists whose input turns into product decisions. Global Accessibility Awareness Day turns 15 this year. In that time, accessibility has moved from a niche conversation to a business consideration most leaders can't afford to ignore. Done well, it expands your addressable market, improves SEO, reduces support load, and helps mitigate legal risk. Done poorly — or not at all — it quietly excludes more than a billion people from using your product. Both are true at the same time, and neither one is a talking point. They're operational realities. Fifteen years in, the conversation has matured. But the work is ongoing — and worth marking. For GAAD this year, accessiBe is hosting a conversation with peers from Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and RightHear on what it actually takes to build an accessible brand. No demos. No pitches. Just what works and what gets in the way. Save your spot: https://lnkd.in/e8xy4-cc

The Viscardi Center has been fighting for disability inclusion since 1952. Michael Caprara carries that mission into every technology decision. As CIO, he oversees technology for an organization that serves people with disabilities across their entire lives — from children in the Henry Viscardi School to adults navigating employment, higher education, and independent living. He sees the same digital barrier repeat itself at each stage: systems built for efficiency rather than inclusion, tested without the people they're meant to serve. He brought that perspective to accessiBe's Inclusive Product Advisory Board and it's shaping how we build. His feature is the fifth in our series for the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day, spotlighting the disability leaders, advocates, and technologists whose input turns into product decisions. Accessibility takes a village. Leah Ison thinks about every person in it. She manages communications and engagement at Cerebral Palsy Alberta, an affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy. Leah knows an inaccessible website doesn't just fail one person. It fails the caregiver, the support worker, the family member navigating alongside them too. She brought that insight to our Inclusive Product Advisory Board and it's shaping how we build. Her feature is the fourth in our series for the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day — spotlighting the disability leaders, advocates, and technologists whose input turns into product decisions. Natalie L. Boehm, MBA, PC knows the epilepsy community's needs are layered: Photosensitivity is one reality, cognitive side effects from medication are another, and a 30% overlap with autism means many people need more than one accommodation at the same time. She surfaced that complexity as a member of accessiBe's Inclusive Product Advisory Board — and the questions she raised are shaping how we build digital experiences. Check out the third feature in our blog series for the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day — spotlighting the disability leaders, advocates, and technologists whose input turns into product decisions. Lonnie Snyder knows what it takes to make technology work for people with intellectual disabilities — a community that remains underserved even within accessibility conversations. Today he joined our monthly town hall to share what that work looks like up close, and what it means when inclusion is personal, not just professional. As CIO for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, he's spent 30 years leading technology innovation for nonprofits. He's also on the board of Children's Assistive Technology Service, a nonprofit that repairs and donates assistive technology for families who need it. And he's the parent of three children with disabilities. That combination — technical leadership, community commitment, and personal involvement — is exactly what accessiBe's Inclusive Product Advisory Board is built around. His feature is the second in our series for the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Catherine Whitlock spends her days thinking about how millions of people access health information online — and whether the systems they rely on are actually built for them. As VP of Digital Strategy at the Parkinson's Foundation, she knows that accessibility isn't a feature. It's the difference between someone managing their own care independently or not. She brought that perspective to accessiBe's Inclusive Product Advisory Board — and it's shaping how we build. Her feature is the first in our series for the 15th Global Accessibility Awareness Day — spotlighting every advisory board member: the disability leaders, advocates, and technologists whose input turns into product decisions.
