For years, environmental data in the maritime industry was largely seen as a compliance issue. Today, it is becoming something much bigger: a strategic asset. In this interview, I share why I believe the companies investing early in environmental intelligence, monitoring and impact assessment will gain a major competitive advantage in the years ahead. 🎥 Because the future of maritime performance will also depend on our ability to better understand and protect the ocean. Curious to hear your perspective on how environmental challenges are reshaping the maritime industry.

Meet Pia Scaramiglia and Margot Dromnelle, marine wildlife observers at Sinay. From video recordings collected at sea, they analyse and identify marine species, following strict observation protocols to ensure reliable and consistent data. Because behind every dataset, there is a rigorous process of verification, cross-checking and interpretation. Working as a team is essential. Observers constantly exchange to confirm identifications and resolve uncertainties. And there is no single path to this role. What surprised them the most when they started? How did they get there? Watch the video to discover their journey and what it really means to work with marine data. 🐬

Great to have our investors, founders and partners under one roof yesterday in Singapore during #SingaporeMaritimeWeek. Particularly energising to see the level of ambition across the room, and the shared drive to build a more efficient and more sustainable maritime and logistics ecosystem. 🌊 We’re entering a new phase for the sector: moving from pilot projects to real scale deployment. Last night was exactly about that — bringing together the people who finance, build and deploy these solutions, and creating the conditions for more of it to happen. Pleased to see several of our portfolio companies contributing to the discussion, with voices from Pyxis, Sinay (with MariTrace), Cetasol, Shippeo and bound4blue, alongside many other innovators. Looking forward to continuing these conversations and turning them into concrete partnerships! Sinay acquires MariTrace Maritime intelligence firm SINAY has acquired MariTrace, a UK-based vessel tracking platform, to strengthen its security, operational, and environmental data offerings. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition follows previous purchases of marine weather analytics provider OpenOcean in 2022 and container tracking service Safecube in 2024. "By bringing together vessel tracking, cargo visibility and environmental intelligence, we are giving customers the tools they need to make better-informed operational and commercial decisions in an increasingly complex risk environment," said Yanis Souami, CEO and Founder of SINAY. The integration of MariTrace with Safecube allows cargo to be linked to specific carriers to provide a unified view of shipments alongside risk intelligence and more accurate Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) predictions. "Joining SINAY allows us to expand our offering by combining our risk and tracking capabilities with a broader set of data and analytics," said Thomas Owen, CEO and Co-Founder of MariTrace. MariTrace uses a network of satellite and terrestrial Automatic Identification System (AIS) receivers to generate over 20 million data points every hour Link to full story in comments.
