Aaron Paul, best known for Breaking Bad, filmed Dual in Tampere, Finland – and was immediately taken by the country’s beauty, warmth and sauna culture.  “I’m a huge sauna guy and that’s the birthplace of sauna,” he told Forbes. Hollywood touched down in Tampere for The Trip, starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis.  The production, led by XYZ Films, marks the LA-based studio’s third Finnish project in four years.   Producer Aram Tertzakian noted that the cast were so impressed with Finland’s professional, well-organised approach to filmmaking that they’d “definitely work in Finland again.”  Director Jorma Taccone praised Tampere for its balance of convenience and beauty: “It has all the amenities of a big city... but the smallness of feeling manageable. Glenn Close stars in The Summer Book, a cinematic adaptation of Tove Jansson’s much-loved novel filmed on Finland’s picturesque coast.  Reflecting on her experience, Close said: “It really was an extraordinary experience for me to be in Finland. Finland’s southwest is fast becoming a serious player in the global film scene. The latest proof? "Tears of the Wolf" – an international action thriller currently filming in Turku and on the island of Örö. Producers were drawn by the golden light and autumn landscapes. “The film shows a lot of beautiful Finland, nature," said Vivian Ólafsdóttir, one of the film's leads. "You have a beautiful country. It’s amazing." Teija Raninen, from the Western Finland Film Commission, sees the production as part of a wider opportunity for the region: "Film is the best cultural export, as the Turku archipelago and historic city are seen around the world." The production is contributing over €2 million to the local economy, with 50% of the crew hired locally and more than 1,000 overnight stays booked during the off-season. This isn’t a one-off for Turku. In recent years, "What Remains" – a psychological drama starring Stellan Skarsgård – was also filmed in the area, including at the iconic Paimio Sanatorium. More international and domestic productions are already lined up in Turku for 2026 – building on the wave of cinematic momentum. Finnish creative talent was in the spotlight late last month at the 2025 Venice TV Award – where writer–director Tiina Lymi took home an award in the Director category for "Queen of Fucking Everything", produced by Rabbit Films. The bold, genre-defying drama also earned a nomination in the Series category, representing the Finnish national broadcaster Yle. Since its premiere, the series has shattered local viewing records and found strong international interest, with deals in over 10 territories already inked. Production on Season 2 is now under way. Moomin Characters is joining forces with US-based studio Annapurna to bring the beloved Moomins to a new global audience through an animated feature film. In a major milestone, this will be the first-ever Moomin film produced in the United States.
