Hollywood touched down in Tampere for The Trip, starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis. The production, led by XYZ Films, marks the LA-based studio’s third Finnish project in four years. Producer Aram Tertzakian noted that the cast were so impressed with Finland’s professional, well-organised approach to filmmaking that they’d “definitely work in Finland again.” Director Jorma Taccone praised Tampere for its balance of convenience and beauty: “It has all the amenities of a big city... but the smallness of feeling manageable. Finland’s southwest is fast becoming a serious player in the global film scene. The latest proof? "Tears of the Wolf" – an international action thriller currently filming in Turku and on the island of Örö. Producers were drawn by the golden light and autumn landscapes. “The film shows a lot of beautiful Finland, nature," said Vivian Ólafsdóttir, one of the film's leads. "You have a beautiful country. It’s amazing." Teija Raninen, from the Western Finland Film Commission, sees the production as part of a wider opportunity for the region: "Film is the best cultural export, as the Turku archipelago and historic city are seen around the world." The production is contributing over €2 million to the local economy, with 50% of the crew hired locally and more than 1,000 overnight stays booked during the off-season. This isn’t a one-off for Turku. In recent years, "What Remains" – a psychological drama starring Stellan Skarsgård – was also filmed in the area, including at the iconic Paimio Sanatorium. More international and domestic productions are already lined up in Turku for 2026 – building on the wave of cinematic momentum.
