As energy operators seek new ways to maintain resilience in increasingly inverter‑dominated grids, projects like Blackhillock demonstrate how grid‑forming capabilities are now being deployed at scale. Now live in Scotland, the Blackhillock battery energy storage system (200MW/400MWh) is helping grid operators manage balancing, stability and network constraints as renewable capacity grows. Developed by Zenobē and powered by Wärtsilä Energy Storage, it’s the largest battery energy storage site currently operating in Europe and the first delivered under the NOA Stability Pathfinder programme. Designed to provide critical services such as true synthetic inertia and short‑circuit support, Blackhillock shows how grid‑scale storage can replace traditional stability services as fossil generation retires. With Wärtsilä’s GEMS Digital Energy Platform, the system can be remotely monitored and optimised, supporting multiple services and adapting to changing grid needs over time.   • Working in demanding production environments should never mean compromising on safety. The use of 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 ensures that our colleagues can carry out their work safely when working on top of engines. 👷 An internal project has improved the use of safety harnesses in situations with a risk of falling. Our goal is simple: every employee returns home healthy every day, which is why we value the correct use of harnesses and continuously develop the equipment. New anchor points and attachment systems have been installed, training has been held, and user feedback has guided further development. ⚙️ Alongside harness solutions, 𝗲𝘅𝗼𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗶𝗱𝘀 are used in our Sustainable Technology Hub production to support ergonomics and work ability.
