The success of emerging renewable technologies, including wave energy, are contingent upon strong mutlistakeholder cooperation. Wavepiston strongly supports the Spanish Government's efforts to ramp up renewable energy and the #blueeconomy. The continued bullishness towards #offshorewind particularly in the Canary Islands will have a knock-on effect for many industries, jobs, clean energy and energy security. Our CEO Michael Henriksen, locally-based Operations & Logistics Specialist Esther Capote Kerr and Project Development Lead Anders Nash recently met with Eloisa Moreno Talaya from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism in Gran Canaria. Following constructive discussions, we are also happy to be participating in the Government's public consultation on the allocated offshore wind areas. #WaveEnergy #OffshoreWind #Colocation

We are proud to share a key milestone in Wavepiston’s project in Martinique. Our project partner CREOCEAN has successfully installed a wave buoy, marking the start of a one-year wave data campaign. This is an important step in advancing our understanding of the local wave resource and moving the project forward. The project receives funding from ADEME, whose backing is instrumental in enabling this progress. We thank everybody involved in achieving this milestone! #WaveEnergy #Desalination #BlueEconomy

🌊 Following the UNIDO International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum (IVECF), Wavepiston had the pleasure of hosting His Excellency Senator Jonathan Reid Minister in the Ministry of Innovation Industry Science & Technology Government of Barbados, and his delegation during their study tour to Denmark. 🚀 The visit focused on exploring Danish industry, innovation ecosystems, and collaborative pathways to drive societal impact. Over several intensive days, the delegation engaged with key stakeholders across Denmark’s innovation landscape, including insightful sessions with: ▪️ DTU Entrepreneurship - Anne Malberg Horsager ▪️ DTU Science Park - Steen Donner ▪️ DI - Confederation of Danish Industry - Confédération des Industries Danoises - Kristian Berg Grum The programme also included a visit to Wavepiston's office at Kronborg Slot, tours of Wavepiston's onshore test facilities at DTU - Technical University of Denmark, and a series of focused working sessions. 🌊 Most of the work at Wavepiston happens behind the scenes, driven by continuous testing, learning, and refinement. 🚀 From full-scale trials at Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias (PLOCAN) to wave tank testing at Aalborg University and Queen's University Belfast, as well as numerical modelling, optimisations at Maynooth University and onshore component and material testing at DTU - Technical University of Denmark, each step brings us closer to more robust and reliable solutions. In collaboration with our colleagues at DTU, we have recently made significant progress in material testing, particularly within tribological performance in marine environments. These findings are now published in Wear. 🌊 Thanks to Barbados Marine Spatial Plan's team for an engaging and enlightening public consultation on their Deep Sea Zoning design. Did you know Barbados' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is over 400x the size of its landmass?! With so much ocean and sea space around it, the Blue Economy and sustainable management of its waters is critical to the nation's future. The zone is brimming with life and opportunity, as well as a need to protect its welfare. 🌎 Fascinating to hear more about the dynamics between tourists, fishers, offshore industry, importance of eco-systems and longer-term conservation. BMSP's proposal for a fully-protected, minimal activity zone was a refreshing message! Gently nurturing the fishing industry whilst protecting this fantastic eco-system, whilst offsetting the impacts of O&G activity, were some of the key topics. Also a pleasure to share Wavepiston's insights into Denmark and North Sea experiences despite a slightly different climate!
