Inspiring young people for science with interactive experiments. 💙 Together with ZEISS volunteers, children and teenagers explored how microchips look under the microscope. Getting hands-on, the young participants playfully recreated the fine microchip structures and discovered how light behaves, from refraction to reflection of their mirror image. 🔎 Enthusiasm for science and technology has always been embedded in the DNA of ZEISS. A remarkable discovery for the quest for earth-like worlds. 🌎🪐 Kepler-10b, discovered in 2011, is the first confirmed rocky planet outside our solar system. It orbits its host star Kepler-10 in an extremely close orbit and is bound in its rotation. In the module created with ZEISS UNIVIEW™, Kepler-10b is visualized as a “hot eyeball” planet. The typical appearance is caused by the fact that one side of the planet is constantly facing the star (tidal locking) and only this side is heated by the star. The ongoing quest for exoplanets keeps revealing planetary characteristics that were previously unknown or even unimaginable to us. Discovering these planets helps us to better understand the mechanisms and special features of them in our solar system, and of Earth in particular.
