Basic Research for Healthy Ageing
Info
The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing investigates the natural ageing process with the long-term goal to pave the way towards increasing health during ageing in humans. It is an institute within the Max Planck Society, which is one of Germany’s most succesful research organisation. Since its foundation in 2008 the institute is an integral part of a local life science cluster that pursue ageing research.

No matter what the weather looks like outside, May is our month for skin health and sun protection. ☀️🧴 Yesterday, our employees had the opportunity to receive an individual skin screening with a physician directly on site at the institute.🔎👨⚕️ The day was accompanied by Carina Frings from the health insurance Die Techniker, who provided information and advice on preventive health check-ups. ✅️ We are very happy that we could offer our employees such a valuable skin cancer prevention initiative- because summer is coming. 😊 ... 😊

New preprint from the Antebi Lab 👇
I’m very excited to share our latest bioRxiv preprint! 🎉 I started this project at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing during my PhD and finalised it in my time as a postdoc. 🔔 Read the full preprint here: https://lnkd.in/epuDGrK3 Here, we show that lifespan extension induced by decreased mTOR signaling is dependent on steroid metabolism in C. elegans. We identified the evolutionarily conserved dehydrogenase DHS-26/DHRS1 as a previously uncharacterized downstream regulatory target of the mTOR-steroid axis. Our findings suggests that mTOR signaling systematically impacts longevity through the regulation of bile acid-like hormone availability and nuclear receptor signal transduction. I want to thank Adam Antebi and our collaborators who made this work possible: Alex Zaufel, Kaylee Morris, Anna Löhrke, Dr. Ratni Saini, Hans-Joachim Knölker, and Tarek Moustafa. Looking forward to feedback and discussions from the community. #ageingbiology #steroidmetabolism #mTOR #longevity #CElegans

🍻 Pint of Science – last night in Cologne Great science, great questions, and a packed pub – that’s Pint of Science at its best. Yesterday evening, researchers shared their work with a curious and engaged audience, sparking lively discussions far beyond the slides. From fundamental research to big questions about ageing, health, and society, it was a pleasure to see science meet the public in such an open and informal setting. A big thank you to all speakers, organisers, and everyone who joined us and asked thoughtful questions. Events like this show how valuable direct dialogue between science and society can be. 🎥 Here’s a short glimpse into last night’s event. #PintOfScience #ScienceCommunication #PublicEngagement #Cologne #Research #AgeingResearch #pint26 #pint26DE Dr. Eileen Cors CECAD Cologne ML4Q | Matter and Light for Quantum Computing MPIPZ - Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research CEPLAS - Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences Anna Diederich Lorenzo Cianni
