KfW IPEX-Bank’s financing expertise and commitment to the mining sector was represented at Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME)'s „Current Trends in Mining Finance“ Conference in New York City. Bela R. Onken, CFA, Director, Business Development North America at KfW IPEX-Bank, contributed to the panels "Financing U.S. Copper Projects" and "Building Mines, Building Nations: Funding the Next Generation of Canadian Critical Minerals". 💡“Financing domestic U.S. copper projects has transformed into a highly strategic endeavor, supporting both the global energy transition and resilience of supply chains for the United States and its allies”, Bela noted. “While there is a significantly increased appetite to finance copper projects in the United States, large-scale projects continue to benefit from a diversified mix of funding sources where international ECA financing can play an important complementary role.” The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec have signed robust international agreements to supply raw materials and develop integrated value chains with trusted allies, e.g. critical mineral partnerships with Germany and the EU. On that note, KfW IPEX-Bank is acting as Mandated Lead Arranger for the debt financing of Troilus Mining Corp.'s copper-gold project in Quebec, Canada. The funding is tied to German export credit agency guarantees (ECA), which are supported by long-term offtake agreements with European operators such as Aurubis and Boliden. In addition, KfW IPEX-Bank is currently pursuing several other critical mineral projects in the United States and Canada, supporting the global energy transition and strengthening supply chain independence across the United States, Canada and Germany. If you would like to discuss how KfW IPEX-Bank may support you in financing mining projects in North America, feel free to reach out to Bela R. Onken, CFA.

✈️ 🌱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🌱✈️ We are proud to have acted as Coordinating Lead Arranger and Underwriter in the financing of a Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plant in Bahia, Brazil - a cornerstone project with a total transaction volume of USD 1.5 billion. The plant, operated by Acelen Renewables, will convert certified used cooking oil (UCO) and soybean oil (SBO) - gradually to be replaced by macaúba oil - into HEFA based SAF, supporting offtake agreements into Europe and North America. 🔄🛢️➡️🌍 Scheduled for commissioning in 2029, the facility is expected to produce around 20,000 barrels per day (20 kbpd) - a major step for large scale SAF supply and aviation decarbonisation. “The production of SAF is one of the key building blocks in the transformation of the aviation sector and is essential for achieving its climate targets” says Dr Velibor Marjanovic, member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank. “Long-term access to these modern and sustainable fuels is of great value to German and European industry.” “The structuring of this financing confirms the project’s technical, financial, and environmental and social robustness. We are now entering a new phase of large-scale industrial execution,” said Luiz de Mendonça, CEO of Acelen Renewables. At KfW IPEX-Bank we remain committed to financing projects that enhance security of supply and accelerate the energy transition - locally and globally. Together, we’re fueling a cleaner future. 🚀🌿
