Hands-on learning in physics using LEGO bricks 🧱 Using a LEGO model of the CROCUS nuclear reactor (EPFL) - A creative approach to teach reactor physics. Master, minor, specialization, or double degree — can you tell the difference? 🤔 The EPFL Master Info Days were the perfect moment to find out! Organized by the EPFL Education Outreach Department (SPE) in collaboration with EPFL faculties, the event aimed to help students answer their questions and make informed academic choices. Over the two-day event, more than 1,000 Bachelor students explored EPFL’s many Master’s opportunities and the countless ways to combine disciplines to design a curriculum that truly reflects their goals and interests. Through program presentations and direct exchanges with professors and current Master’s students, participants discovered examples of inspring combination available to them such as: 🏗️ Master in Civil Engineering + specialization in geotechnics & minor in Management → bridging the worlds of engineering and entrepreneurship. 🚀 Master in Mechanical Engineering + specialization in Fluid Mechanics & minor in Space Technologies → advancing technical expertise and career opportunities in the aerospace field. 🌱 Master in Environmental Sciences and Engineering + specialization in Water Resource Management & minor in Engineering for Sustainability → taking a step toward practical environmental and water management projects. A week immersed in the world of research at EPFL! 🧪🔬 💡 Ever wondered how molecules are created, analyzed, or transformed into innovative materials? Or dreamed of conducting your own experiments and exploring scientific research alongside other curious young minds? Together with Schweizer Jugend forscht | Science et jeunesse | Scienza e gioventù, EPFL is hosting 33 high school students from across Switzerland for a one-week research immersion in our labs. 😀 Guided by scientists and PhD students, the participants will design and carry out their own research projects in chemistry, discovering firsthand what it means to be a researcher! We are pleased to share the recent announcement from the Laidlaw Foundation: five of the 57 scholars selected by Taylor & Francis Group to have their research posters published on F1000Research are EPFL students. 👏 Congratulations to all of them — Sara Vaccino, Thomas Delaloye, Darius Giannoli, Emma Willaume, and Laura Coccia and thumbs up for Francesco Screti for his dedicated mentorship throughout the process! 👍 This distinction is particularly noteworthy given the highly competitive context. Among more than 500 Laidlaw Scholars participating in the European and North American Annual Scholars Conferences, the work of our undergraduate students stood out for its rigor, clarity, and the creativity with which they presented complex research on a single poster. For these students, showcasing their research after their first laboratory experience marks an important milestone. Their hosting laboratories and supervisors commended their motivation, intellectual curiosity, deep commitment, and remarkable potential! 🌟

🎓✨ Cette année, le 5à7 destiné aux enseignant·es de gymnase a pris une nouvelle tournure ! 💡 🔄 En parallèle des Journées d’information des gymnasien·nes, le Service de promotion de l’éducation de l’EPFL a revisité le concept pour offrir plus d’espaces d’échange et de réflexion autour de tables rondes abordant des sujets tels que: 🔹 La place des maths dans les nouveaux plans d’études romands avec Sylvie Luisier-Pache, présidente de la Commission romande de mathématiques 🔹 L’éducation numérique à l’ère des débats démocratiques en ligne animé par Bryan Ford, Head of Decentralized Distributed Systems Laboratory 🔹 Les mesures à mettre en place pour inciter plus de filles à choisir l’OS PAM et le niveau de mathématiques renforcé. ✨ Les Journées d’information 2025 se sont achevées en beauté ! ✨ 🤩 Du 19 au 21 novembre ce sont près de 3500 participant·es qui sont venu·es découvrir les multiples facettes de l’EPFL! Entre rencontres avec les étudiant·es, partages d’expérience, présentations des filières et stages immersifs, ces journées furent riches en échanges et en émotions. Pensées pour les élèves des deux dernières années de gymnase/lycée, elles offrent une véritable immersion pour mieux comprendre les études à l’EPFL et faire un choix éclairé pour la suite de son parcours. Comme chaque année, l’EPFL, via le Service de promotion de l’éducation et les différentes facultés, a offert un programme captivant : 🔹 Présentations des filières de formation : Les visiteurs ont pu découvrir les 13 programmes Bachelor, chacun présentant des opportunités uniques pour façonner leur avenir. 🔹 Conférences interdisciplinaires : Des expert·es ont partagé leurs connaissances sur des sujets d'actualité tels que les technologies médicales, l’entrepreneuriat, Design & impact et l’intelligence artificielle. Ces discussions ont permis d’appréhender par quel biais les différentes filières d'études abordent ces enjeux globaux. 🔹 Stands d'échange : Plus d’une vingtaine de stands ont permis aux participant·es d’interagir avec la communauté estudiantine, le corps enseignant, ainsi que les services dédiés aux étudiant·es débutant leur cursus à l’EPFL. Les associations qui animent la vie sociale et culturelle de l’EPFL étaient également présentes, créant un vrai esprit communautaire! 💡 La seconde journée était principalement dédiée à des stages pratiques, offrant aux participant·es une immersion dans les laboratoires et la possibilité de mener des expériences. Une occasion unique de découvrir la dimension pratique des filières d’études. 🔎 Un immense merci à toutes les sections, aux associations et à chaque personne qui a contribué à rendre ces moments vivants, inspirants et utiles.
