Meet the Finalists | Syngenta Grower of the Year | Hort Connections Craig Van Rooyen is a progressive Bundaberg grower leading a family operation across seven orchards (over 450 hectares and around 100,000 lychee and macadamia trees) supplying both domestic and export markets. Craig’s commitment to sustainability is clear: strong soil health programs, precision monitoring for nutrition and irrigation, and Reef Certification across all farms to help protect water quality and the Great Barrier Reef. An early adopter, he collaborates with universities, industry and government to trial new technologies and practices, while also driving exceptional export performance – including making history with the first consignment of Australian lychees to New York. Beyond production, Craig is a long-standing industry leader and advocate, hosting field days, supporting R&D, and championing water security and farmland protection.

Fall armyworm, powdery mildew, and stink bugs are growing threats putting pressure on global food production. That’s why plant health matters far beyond the field. 🌱 Plant health solutions play a critical role in strengthening food production systems, protecting yields from invasive pests and destructive crop diseases. This International Day of Plant Health, we’re spotlighting the science-based solutions helping farmers protect their yields, strengthen resilience, and support long-term food production. Here’s what we’re doing: https://lnkd.in/eB5vNQbW #InternationalDayofPlantHealth #Agriculture #PlantScience #FoodSecurity

What does it take to detect pathogens at levels up to 1,000 times more sensitive than 30 years ago, and why does it matter? 🌍 At our Seed Health Lab in the Netherlands, precision is everything. From advanced molecular diagnostics like PCR to strict phytosanitary protocols, our scientists test every seed lot to ensure it meets the highest standards before reaching growers. 🧑🌾 Seed health underpins yield, supply stability, and the ability to grow food reliably year after year. With over 10,000 tests processed in its first year, our new lab plays a critical role in preventing the spread of seed-borne diseases and supporting global agriculture systems. Step inside the lab and see how it all comes together: https://lnkd.in/gU_uvEYE Syngenta Vegetable Seeds #Agriculture #SyngentaVegetableSeeds #FoodSecurity #Innovation

Nearly a third of the Indonesian workforce makes a living through agriculture. While men own most smallholder farms in the country, women play a vital and growing role in the sector. Yet many still face barriers to resources, training, and recognition. We wanted to help raise their income and transform their careers. In 2023, our Seeds team launched the ‘Srikandi NK’ initiative, named after the legendary female warrior of the Javanese Mahabharata tradition, to build networks for over 3,000 women corn farmers in Indonesia. 🌽 The results were clear: By helping women farmers add value to what they grow, Srikandi NK is turning long days in the fields into real opportunity. For many, this means an extra Rp 3 million (around $175 USD) each month — money that helps put food on the table, support their children, and build a more secure future. Our partnership doesn’t stop here. In honor of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, we’re expanding Srikandi NK with our new PUTRI Petani MAJU initiative this year - building an even larger hub for women farmers where they can receive relevant training and access to inputs, technology, and markets. “Wood” you believe it? 👀 🪵 Without checks, pine weevils can chew through a tree’s delicate bark and inevitably cause its death. For foresters, working in 20-40 year harvest cycles, these losses put commercial forestry at risk of collapse. To get to the root of the problem, we developed Lanzarta, an insecticide that selectively targets chewing pests. Following its emergency use, Lanzarta has now been granted full authorization in the UK, enabling both nursery pre-treatment and in-forest application! 🎉 There are many branches to the science of Lanzarta. Here's how we're turning a new leaf. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gStS4TrA #Forests #Innovation #PestManagement

What if the answer to protecting crops has been in trees all along? 🌳 In Chile, Quillaja saponaria trees produce natural compounds that help it defend against environmental stress. Today, we’re applying those same compounds in agriculture through Quillibrium, a biological solution designed to help manage fungal diseases in high-value crops. Quillibrium is produced in controlled conditions for consistent quality and works by targeting pathogens while activating the plant’s own defense responses. 💪 Take a look at how Quillibrium works here: https://lnkd.in/gmxEd7zy #Agriculture #Biologicals #Innovation #CropProtection

Mosquitoes are responsible for around 700 million vector-borne infections each year, but our colleague Mark Hoppé is here to help! 🦟 This World Malaria Day, we’re sharing the story of our very own mosquito expert, who’s obsessed with stopping these insects from transmitting disease. Mark’s work helps unlock new potential for our crop protection products, showing how they can be adapted for public health use to prevent life-threatening infections like malaria from being spread. Mark has already helped prevent the spread of millions of infections around the world. He’s a strong reminder of how obsessions drive innovation. Do you have an obsession that’s driving real-world impact? Let us know in the comments. 💬👇 #WorldMalariaDay #Innovation #GlobalHealth #Obsessedwith
