Effective global health systems require national ownership. On the sidelines of #WHA79, 14 ministers and country representatives affirmed five priority actions that we are supporting through the #GaviLeap to transform global health architecture and ensure it is country-led, resilient and responsive to local needs. As health workers race to contain the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the DRC, we are reminded that surviving the virus is just the first step. For many survivors, the battle continues for years, with lingering effects ranging from chronic pain to severe social stigma. Here’s why the road back to “normal” is a steep climb for some Ebola survivors:

Confined spaces have always been a haven for pathogens. And as the recent Andes hantavirus outbreak reminds us, outbreaks at sea remain one of our oldest public health challenges. Here’s why international data sharing is the key to keeping us safe, both on land and at sea: https://bit.ly/4femf2H

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance hat dies direkt geteilt
Today, on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly, CEPI and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aligns with both organisations’ new strategies and reaffirms our shared commitment to working together. This renewal comes at an important moment. As both organisations have laid out their priorities for the years ahead, there is a clear recognition that the global health landscape has shifted, and that deeper alignment across R&D, manufacturing, financing, and delivery will be essential to support countries in preparing for and responding to future threats. The outbreak of Ebola caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo serves as a timely reminder of the persistent risk of infectious disease threats—and the importance of coordinated, end-to-end response. This renewed MoU provides an opportunity to reflect the evolution of CEPI and Gavi’s partnership, strengthening collaboration across the end‑to‑end vaccine ecosystem, deepening alignment on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, and expanding operational cooperation. It’ll ultimately provide a framework to work more closely on R&D, manufacturing, supply security, global health architecture and country readiness. In doing so, we are helping to achieve our joint goals of accelerating equitable access to outbreak vaccines so countries can respond faster, more fairly, and with greater confidence when the next threat emerges. As both CEPI and Gavi look ahead, this MoU captures our commitment to working together, and with countries and partners, to build a safer, more prepared world.

Thank you to Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, South African Government, Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and British International Investment for hosting the #GlobalPartnershipsConference to highlight how innovative finance, new technologies and local leadership can unlock broader development impact. We hosted a side event to explore how the next generation of finance and tech can go even further. Our panel underscored how catalytic financing and responsible technology partnerships can accelerate country-led outcomes across health, nutrition and education. Many thanks to our panellists Richard Matikanya, Toby Norman, Dianne Stewart and to our moderator Sebastian Meaney. We also welcomed insights from Andrew Mitchell MP, The ONE Campaign’s Kerezhi Sebany, MedAccess UK's CEO Michael Anderson CB and Nicholas Vaughan.

Malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia are preventable childhood diseases that are major causes of death in young children in lower-income countries. They’re transmitted largely in and around the home, where children spend most of their time. A three-year study of Tanzanian children found that changing the way homes are designed can prevent these three major child diseases by up to 44%.
