More than just startups, Vancouver Startup Week brings together large companies, global and local investors, government stakeholders, and many others. We are one of many Startup Weeks that celebrate entrepreneurs around the globe. In Vancouver, we have evolved over two short years to be an event that in 2015 brought together more than 3,000 people across more than 80 different events, run by dozens of amazing community partners.

  • There wasn't a room at VSW 2026 where someone wasn't holding a PeelTea. A fully stocked fridge at HQ, cans cracked open between panels, and in side conversations all week. The drink became part of the feel of VSW 2026. So Deborah W., VSW's Head of Content, and Tej Nathoo, VSW's Social Media Marketing Manager, headed to the Mizu Brands office to find out who's making it. Patrick Bourne, CEO of Mizu Brands, walked us through PeelTea from the ground up. The drink is made by extracting nutrients from organic fruit and veggie peels and infusing them into every can. All-natural ingredients. Built around sustainability. The can the whole VSW community spent a week reaching for has a Vancouver founder, a Vancouver office, and a story worth telling. Thank you to PeelTea and Mizu Brands for sponsoring VSW 2026, for keeping HQ fuelled all week, and for opening your doors so we could share this with our community. Vancouver is lucky to have you. 🫶 #VSW2026 #VancouverStartupWeek #PeelTea #BuiltInVancouver

  • There's a pattern that shows up on LinkedIn every year, in the 2 weeks after Vancouver Startup Week ends. 🧩 Something specific: founders revisiting decisions they made in a room at VSW and describing what those decisions produced. → sat in a session and walked out having decided to build something → showed up to VSW years ago and came back this year wearing a completely different badge → credits a conversation in a hallway with a career they didn't see coming The week itself is substantial. What it sets in motion shows up months and years later. 🪄 We documented it: what VSW 2026 actually set in motion, and what twelve years of building this community has produced. Link in comments. ↓

Feeling the need to mention Vancouver Startup Week again + a few of my fave moments (there were too many! 😉) 💙 Seeing Science World, BC Place and Canada Place lit up in VSW colours. 😍 Working with the amazing VSW team and witnessing them each do what they do best, from making the week so much fun, to producing content, fighting fires and pitching in wherever we needed all week. #dreamteam 🤝 Meeting new friends in our community and reconnecting with old ones (even those from previous lifetimes of mine!) May have been a over coffee in the VSW Cafe or a brief hug in the hallway... but it was all great :) 🎤 The Cold Tea Collective event with Natasha Jung and Michael KH Chung. Because after walking through a gallery of what was literally my childhood, I got to share a few words with the Chinese Canadian community and my peers. And that felt extra special. 🍕 Being able to showcase not just tech companies, but those in the F&B industry like Just Pizza, Mizu Brands (officially addicted to PeelTea) No Days Wasted® CaterDash and thanks Jason Naidoo for always trusting me with the fancy Nespresso Professional machines. 🔥 The variety of events that were a part of the VSW calendar (the return of Men in Tech 3.0 - thank you Chris Hobbs and Ray Walia, FCPA, FCMA for saying "yes!" to me before you even knew what you signed up for, a fantastic Happy Hour with Jayesh Parmar and Michael Tworek, PhD, shout out to Misti Cain for coming up from SD, packed rooms with Launch Builders with Sam Chan and Elena Kiseleva and AI Club with Brandon G., our killer closing party at D/6 thanks to Michael Stephens...) 85+ events and all of our partners played a significant role in making VSW2026 the best one! 🐶 Not officially a VSW event, but took a doggy therapy break thanks to Downtown Van 🤩 YELL Canada students and alumni. They were volunteering with us, moderating panels or speaking on one, attending sessions and networking their butts off... Katty Wang and I seriously have the best "kids" 🫶🏻 Special mention to Patrick Lago for coming out with littlest VSW fan to cheer me on. If you've made it this far... For over a decade, VSW has been built by volunteers who genuinely care about this ecosystem and want to create spaces where people can connect, learn, build, and feel inspired. But here’s the the thing... Community events like this are getting really hard to sustain. Funding is tougher to secure. Support in meaningful ways is shrinking. And while the demand for spaces like this keeps growing, the BTS resources definitely are not. So if you attended and thought: “Wow, this city really needs this.” …we agree. But we need help to keep it going. Here’s how you can support: 👉 Fill out our post event survey: https://lnkd.in/g-dcNgKk 👉 Introduce us to sponsors, funders, partners, or grant opportunities Because honestly? Vancouver deserves this kind of energy. And we’d really love to keep building it. You’re all the reason this week was special. Thank you! ❤️

  • Web Summit is in Vancouver this week. Welcome! 🌊 If you’ve just landed in the city and want a read on what kind of ecosystem you’ve arrived in, Canada Now's Ashley Smith wrote the piece for you. She spent time at Vancouver Startup Week a couple of weeks back and came away with one of the clearest articulations of how Vancouver builds we’ve seen this year. The frame that stuck: "Web Summit Vancouver 2026 brings scale, visibility, and global attention. But the foundation it’s landing on is something more grounded — a community thinking carefully about how it builds, who it builds for, and what kind of ecosystem it wants to become." For visiting founders and investors trying to understand why the conversations here sound different, this is your primer. 💬🌱 Thanks to Ashley for the read, and to the seven Vancouver founders and operators who shared what they’re seeing right now: Ashley, Laura, Shreya, Viktoriia, Ashley, Ivanni, and Martin. 👉 The piece: https://lnkd.in/e2nqhpyS Enjoy your week in Vancouver! 🏔️🌊

Web Summit Vancouver has officially landed. 🌍🍁 But before the global spotlight turned toward the city this week, Vancouver Startup Week brought together founders, operators, and emerging builders from across the region — offering a closer look at the people and perspectives shaping Vancouver’s startup ecosystem right now. After speaking with attendees, founders, and speakers across the community, a few themes stood out: → A growing focus on sustainable growth over “growth at all costs” → More conversations about humanity, participation, and long-term thinking in the age of AI → An ecosystem that feels increasingly confident doing things its own way One thing that struck me most: the accessibility of it all. For many newer founders, the value of the week wasn’t just networking — it was learning how to engage, ask questions, build confidence, and participate in a broader community of builders. And if you’re in Vancouver for Web Summit this week, that’s probably the most important thing to understand about the local scene: it’s collaborative, thoughtful, and deliberate in the way it builds. I pulled together a deeper reflection on the signals, conversations, and momentum shaping Vancouver for Canada Now — featuring insights from Ashley Gallant, Laura Fortey, Shreya Motee, Viktoriia Popovych, Ashley Armstrong The Hidden Rules Expert, Ivanni Tayabas ♾️ 🤙🏻 🔜 🚀 📕 🦄, and Martin Montero. 🔎 Read here: https://lnkd.in/geCxTfy8 #WebSummit #WebSummitVancouver #VancouverTech #StartupCanada #CanadaNow #Innovation #VancouverStartupWeek

I might be the last person posting about Vancouver Startup Week as Web Summit kicks off tonight… but I couldn’t let this moment pass without sharing some meaningful reflections. 9 years ago, I joined the VSW team while I was still finding my place in the startup world. Since then, VSW has grown into one of Canada’s pillar startup events. And in many ways, I’ve grown alongside it too. From launching my own startups, to building Rise Above Finance, to now advising hundreds of fellow founders, I’ve found my lane helping founders make clearer financial decisions. What started as finding my place in the startup ecosystem has become the privilege of helping other founders navigate theirs. This year, I got to see so many friends speak on panels, organize events, and share their own founder journeys. A few personal highlights: Chang and Tiffany launching Beaver's Den Samson Ngo and Filmosity Media creating killer content Natasha and Michael highlighting fellow Asian founders I also had the honour of hosting a finance session for founders with Jacob, and bringing Rise Above Finance to the Opening Reception and Ecosystem Showcase. And once again, I had the privilege of working alongside an incredible team: Vivian and Katty, our amazing co-chairs, and my close friends, mentors, and allies throughout the years. Mark, my day-one fellow organizer, brand expert, and someone I continually turn to as my design guru. And every member of the VSW team who continues to inspire me with their quality of work, generosity, and spirit. Love y'all! Tej Deborah Monica Fizza Ellyana Ryan Firm Abigail Disha Patty Yuki Phyllis Leann James Nemo Eric Holden Jennifer Anne Mervyn Sophia Ti Flynn Brian Andrew Much love to everyone who has been part of this year’s VSW. Here’s to whatever comes in future years! For now, I’ll catch you all around Web Summit this week, or at a bubble tea cafe around town.

It’s been 5 days since we bid Vancouver Startup Week 2026 a fond farewell and it’s been back to “the usual programming” since then. I'm going to take some time to give shout outs and mentions… and first up is the most deserving of all the kudos: the VSW Team. I will say this over and over and over again.. but this team has more passion, dedication and talent than any other team I’ve ever worked with. And did I mention they’re all volunteers? They've been working off the side of their desks, doing this in between work and study breaks, taking vacation days just to be there… Katty Wang and I are truly lucky to have this team as our VSW family. 🥹 Mark Victor Ponce - you pretty much led the entire team! From humble beginnings of designing our VSW 2017 passes to pretty much being responsible for how VSW looks in all places… wow! Watching you grow as both a designer and as a leader has been a true joy. Now.. time to get you to move home 😉 To the talented marketing and digix team: Tej Nathoo Deborah W. Monica De Mesa Fizza Parsayan Ellyana Baumet Ryan Hunter Firm Kongthong Abigail Solaja Disha Dhanwani Patty Yu-Lan Liu Yuki Doshita Patty Yu-Lan Liu Ayaan R, MBA Alvin Hartono, PMP.. I'm speechless. (well kind of.. it is me after all lol..) For the first time, I logged out of our social accounts, didn’t stress about missing a draft of a newsletter, didn’t worry about what was going out and didn’t look at the marketing calendar.. because the “team has got this!” and they really did. Everything you saw during VSW had the team’s touch on it and that’s why it all looked SO 👏 DAMN 👏 GOOD 👏 Phyllis Lai, CFRE, Enoch Weng, Leann (Yutuc) Greene, James K. Nemo Anyudan Zhao .. you all make VSW events so successful in your own ways. From floor plans, to securing sponsors, to bartending and everything in between! Dream team to the max extreme! 🤩 Eric Chow - Thank you for leading the EDI efforts and helping us bring VSW to more communities. Because of you, the team puts more thought into all that we do.... doing it with intention, inclusion and best practices top of mind. 🫶 Holden Beggs for bringing your brain.. and your stomach to the team. Thank you for the guidance, the talks, and the laughs. Jennifer L., Anne Ngan, Mervyn M., Sophia Nguyen Ti Wu and the entire army of VSW volunteers that joined us the week of… without you all, VSW would not have been such a success. You make us look good, made everyone feel welcome, and showed that this city is a truly world class place for our ecosystem to live and work in. 🙌 Andrew Dilts, thanks, Godfather, for trusting the co-chairs and letting us run with everything and for having our backs. ☺️ Flynn Flores Kevin Pilar, MEd Brian Elliot Samson Ngo and the Filmosity Media team.. it was so much fun having you all there to capture all the VSW moments! ( 😂 the good, the goofy, and the sometimes questionable..)

  • VSW 2026 was built by the community that showed up. What comes next is too. The picture of what VSW is is only complete with the people who were actually there: who you are, what you're building, and what the week gave you. A 3-minute post-event survey is how we capture that, and filling it out goes directly toward securing the funding that determines VSW's future. Your response is one of the most direct ways to shape what this community builds next. If you were at VSW 2026, take 3 minutes. https://lnkd.in/eenCabNZ
