About us

FEDIOL, the EU vegetable oil and proteinmeal industry association, represents the interests of the European oilseed crushers, vegetable oil refiners and bottlers. FEDIOL members are 12 national associations and associated company members in 5 other EU countries. With about 180 facilities in Europe, the sector provides 20,000 direct employments. Its members process approximately 55 million tonnes of basic products a year, both of EU origin and imported from third country markets. The sector crushes oilseeds, notably rapeseed, sunflower seed, soybeans and linseed into oils and meals and refines those crude oils from crushing and crude tropical oils, notably palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil. The meals and the crude and refined oils are sold for food, feed, technical and energy uses essentially on the European market.

Primary Food Processors (PFP) welcome the European Commission’s High-Level Stakeholder Roundtable on the future review of the EU Emissions Trading System. The discussion confirmed an important message: the EU must continue to decarbonise, with the ETS remaining a central pillar of its climate policy. At the same time, the framework must enable the transition in practice by supporting competitiveness, investment capacity and protection against carbon leakage. For PFP, this balance is essential. PFP is proactively contributing to this debate. Following an internal workshop with its membership, PFP is finalising its position on the ETS framework for 2031-2040, identifying key priorities, risks and practical recommendations for primary food processors. As energy-intensive agro-industrial operators, our sectors are directly exposed to carbon and energy costs, international competition and major decarbonisation challenges. They also play a vital role in connecting European agriculture, food production, the bioeconomy and rural-industrial value chains. In this spirit, PFP invites the European Commission to count on primary food processing and the wider agri-food industrial value chain in future exchanges on the ETS review. Our sectors should be part of the next phases of the ETS discussion. © Tereos Starch Europe, CEFS (EU SUGAR), FEDIOL, EUVEPRO – European Vegetable Protein Association ‎, European Flour Millers, European Cacao Association

  • On 4 May, the European Commission published a report on the simplification of the revised EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) and a set of further implementing measures following the agreement of co-legislators last December. ✍ In a joint statement, COCERAL, FEDIOL, and FEFAC regret that 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨𝗗𝗥 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and does not improve legal certainty for companies. The signatories are convinced that a targeted amendment of the EUDR is necessary since FAQs and guidance can only propose marginal new interpretations of the same inconsistent, complex and ambiguous provisions. 🔗 shorturl.at/uihDh

  • Biofuels contribute to a thriving European Bioeconomy 💚 Did you know? The esterification process used to create #biodiesel generates glycerine as a by-product. This bio-material has successfully replaced fossil-based equivalents in the EU chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic sectors 🧪 💄 To support the de-fossilisation of the EU’s economy, it is essential to unlock the full potential of sustainable biofuels across Member States. We need a technology-neutral policy framework that recognises first-generation biofuels as a sustainable investment. #Bioeconomy #Innovation #SustainableInvestment #Biofuels #Sustainability #CircularBioeconomy

📰 EUDR Simplification: Time to address EU primary producers and industries’ concerns From agriculture, livestock, forest, forest-based industries and feed to vegetable oil and protein meal, many sectors call on EU institutions and Member States to take the necessary time to address their persistent concerns over the EU Deforestation Regulation. While well-intentioned, the EUDR risks undermining the competitiveness, resilience and autonomy of important European sectors if its implementation is not carefully reviewed and simplified. • The EU #transport sector is lagging behind in meeting its renewable energy target. Increasing its uptake of renewables will require immediate, scalable solutions. EU-produced first-generation (1G) biofuels are delivering results today 📉🍃 In 2024, FEDIOL members’ biodiesel achieved an average of 65.2% GHG savings compared to fossil fuels, preventing 12 million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere 🫧 By utilising existing fuel infrastructure and internal combustion engines, first-generation biofuels already provide a cost-effective #defossilisation pathway ⛽️ 🔓 To meet ambitious decarbonisation goals in transport beyond 2030, first-generation biofuels are needed in the EU’s renewable energy mix.    #Decarbonisation #FitFor55 #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #Biodiesel #Biofuels

  • March 2026 monthly crush and refining of crush oils #stats have been published. March 26 numbers show a good recovery of crush activity in EU, yet insufficient to recover tonnages lost YTD, so that Q1/26 volumes are still lowest on record over the past 5 years. When compared to Q1/25, 🫛 soy crush down 240 KT on uncertainty of US trade flows accounts for most of the 300 KT quarterly loss yoy; 🌻 sunseeds for the balance down 60 KT still constrained by black see availabilities, while 🌱 rapeseed crush remained stable thanks to good import programs. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e2r968pM #statistics #vegetableoils #crushing #soybean #sunflower #rapeseed

#Mycotoxins. Sounds complicated. But what are they? First off: Mycotoxins are metabolites of fungi growing on crops. 🍄🌾 They're classed as a significant food safety hazard. If not managed properly, they're linked to health issues such as cancer. They also affect animal #feed, leading to losses in protein and the contamination of products such as milk. They've always been around, but, in part due to #ClimateChange, farmers and traders are seeing them more and more. This is due to a variety of factors, including: ▶ Biological (insects, susceptible crops) ▶ Environmental (temperature, humidity...) ▶ Harvesting (crop maturity, moisture content...) ▶ Storage (temperature, moisture...) Therefore, they are a concern, though manageable with proper policy and care. We've looked at mycotoxins before, as handling them is an important part of the daily work our members do. Tomorrow, we'll be hosting a workshop with our members, together with Unistock Europe - Portside Storekeepers for Agribulk Commodities Association, FEDIOL and FEFAC, on the status of mycotoxins in 2026. So follow along for the latest information!

Can #biofuel production strengthen food security? In the EU oilseed sector, the answer is a definitive yes. 🌾🤝 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗘𝗨 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in case of global supply shocks as volumes can be re-directed to food markets 🌐 In addition, DYK? Every 1 MT of rapeseed oil used for biodiesel delivers 1.5 MT of high-protein meal for animal feed 🐷🐔 💡 By driving demand for EU-grown oilseeds, the biofuel market directly increases Europe’s protein autonomy, reducing our reliance on imported feed. In an increasingly volatile geopolitical landscape, EU’s pursuit of Strategic Autonomy is no longer an option but a matter of necessity 🛡️ #StrategicAutonomy #EnergySecurity #Competitiveness #FoodAndFuel #FeedAndFuel #FoodSecurity
