Belgium's national airline, offering flights out of Brussels Airport to Europe, Middle East, North Atlantic and Africa

About us

Brussels Airlines is the home carrier of Belgium and one of the four network airlines of the Lufthansa Group. It connects the European capital from Brussels Airport with over 90 destinations, 17 of which are in Sub Saharan Africa. The company employs more than 3,500 people and operates 46 aircraft. Brussels Airlines aims to emit 50% less CO2 by 2030 compared to 2019 and plans to be carbon neutral by 2050. The airline is participating in the Stargate Project led by Brussels Airport and is therefore part of the testing ground for sustainable aviation at its home base. In addition, the airline signed the Circular Economy agreement of the Antwerp Management School in 2021. The airline was the first to transport Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through the CEPS-pipeline connecting Brussels Airport early 2023. Since end 2024, Brussels Airlines has welcomed five state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo allowing the airline to significantly lower its CO2- and noise-emissions on its medium-haul network. As an ambassador of its country, Brussels Airlines brings the world to Belgium and the best of Belgium to the world, among others through collaborations with Belgian Star Chefs, Belgian culinary products and the Belgian Icons, specially painted aircraft that honour a Belgian iconic person, team or event to promote Belgian culture worldwide.

  • After Kinshasa, AfriConnections made its next stop in Abidjan yesterday evening. At the "Rotonde des Arts", colleagues, partners and guests gathered to celebrate this new chapter of our travelling exhibition: bringing together people, perspectives and creative voices across continents. Another successful step for AfriConnections, driven by strong local engagement!

  • This year's Africa CEO Forum, discussions focused on one central idea: scale is becoming a prerequisite for growth and shared ownership a key lever to achieve it. For Lufthansa Group and Brussels Airlines specifically, the African continent is a long-standing strategic focus: ✈️ Every 23 minutes, a Lufthansa Group flight takes off to Africa 🌍 29 countries served across the continent 🔴 Brussels Airlines connects 17 (soon 18) countries in sub-Saharan Africa 📈 10 new routes coming in 2026, including Kilimanjaro with Brussels Airlines With such a footprint, engaging in the conversations at the #ACF2026 was only natural.

Back from my second participation in the Africa CEO Forum in Rwanda, this time together with Julia Hillenbrand and René Koinzack. These two days were filled with inspiring encounters and debates. How can solutions in Africa scale? What can be Africa's larger role in global markets beyond exporting raw materials? What changes due to the current geopolitical tensions? The Africa CEO Forum was once again a place to hear from leading policy makers, discuss with other business leaders and participate in insightful panel discussions. Next to the forum I also had some further inspiring meetings: a lunch invitation hosted by H.E. Heike Dettmann, Ambassador of Germany, some interactions with our customers and a meeting with our dynamic local team in Kigali. We celebrated work anniversaries and said farewell to a valued Brussels Airlines colleague who is beginning her well-deserved retirement after more than 25 years with the company. Professional connections, inspiring insights, and profound gratitude for our teams in Kigali are what I am bringing back with me to Brussels. Thank you, dear Audrey Natukunda, for your warm welcome and thank you to all colleagues involved in the organization of this memorable visit!

  • Art has taken flight in Kinshasa. AfriConnections opened with a vibrant vernissage at Texaf Bilembo, bringing together 15 artists from the Ifitry collection and turning long-standing ties between Belgium and the Congo into a rich cultural dialogue. Relive the highlights in our aftermovie 👇

  • First‑quarter 2026 results reflect contrasting start to the year for Brussels Airlines. In the first quarter of 2026, Brussels Airlines reports an adjusted EBIT of -55 million euros, a 4% decrease year-on-year. While the airline started the year with a strong performance in January and February, the national and geopolitical developments of March weighed on the results of the first quarter. As is common in the aviation industry, the first quarter remains structurally challenging. More information in our press release: http://prez.ly/LbGd

  • Building bridges through art. Yesterday, we proudly opened AfriConnections in Kinshasa, marking the very first step of our 2026 traveling exhibition dedicated to contemporary African art. This exhibition brings together fifteen artists from across the continent, including several internationally recognized names. Through their work, they showcase the richness, diversity, and creative energy that define contemporary African art today. From Kinshasa, the journey continues to Abidjan, Yaoundé, and Dakar, before reaching Brussels. Along the way, the exhibition creates a meaningful dialogue between African capitals and Europe, driven by creativity and shared perspectives. By hosting AfriConnections in leading museums and cultural venues, we aim to go beyond simply connecting destinations. We want to connect people, stories, and ideas across continents in a lasting and impactful way.
