Royal Life Saving – Australia was pleased to support yesterday's Inland Waterway Forum in Echuca, delivered by Life Saving Victoria through the Australian Government Inland Communities Water Safety Program. The forum brought together researchers, emergency services, land managers, local government and water safety leaders to strengthen collaboration and focus attention on reducing drowning risk across inland waterways and regional communities. Our National Manager – Drowning Prevention Strategy, Dr William Koon, presented on the Australian Water Safety Strategy 2030 and the growing focus on inland waterway safety as part of a national approach to drowning prevention. Will highlighted three areas that matter most in driving meaningful change: • Systems-level prevention that addresses the broader environmental, social and policy factors contributing to drowning risk. • Strong land manager leadership to improve safety planning, risk management and community engagement across waterways. • Building disaster resilience to better protect communities as climate, weather and emergency events continue to shape water safety risks. Will brings deep expertise and passion to drowning prevention, particularly in bringing people together to rethink challenges, strengthen partnerships and identify practical opportunities to drive down drowning in every community. Royal Life Saving Australia is proud to continue working alongside governments, researchers, community leaders and industry partners to advance the Australian Water Safety Strategy 2030 and improve safety outcomes across all Australian waterways. #WaterSafety #DrowningPrevention #InlandWaterways #AquaticSafety

As fuel prices rise, so do the pressures on aquatic facilities and the communities they serve. Royal Life Saving Australia is warning that the fuel crisis is affecting swimming lesson participation, workforce availability, program delivery and access to water safety education - with regional, remote and disadvantaged communities feeling the impacts most acutely. When children miss out on lessons, the long-term implications for drowning prevention can be significant. Aquatic facilities play a vital role in keeping communities safe, active and connected, but rising fuel and travel costs are making it harder to deliver these essential services. 🔗 Read more here: https://bit.ly/4cx9kWo #WaterSafety #DrowningPrevention #RoyalLifeSaving #SwimAndSurvive #CommunitySafety #AquaticFacilities
