For generations, the YMCA has stood alongside veterans, defence families and those who have served. On VE Day, we honour all veterans. From the Boer War to those serving today, their courage and sacrifice helped shape Australia and continue to shape the communities we work in. At the Y, that shows up in what we do. Health and aquatic programs, rehabilitation, inclusion pathways and community connection that help veterans and their families reconnect, recover and belong. We're proud to work with partners including the South Australian Sports Institute, Swimming Australia, Virtual War Memorial Australia and Invictus-aligned pathways that demonstrate what sport, service and community can do together. Sir Peter Cosgrove, Patron of Virtual War Memorial Australia, has spoken about the power of these partnerships to keep veterans connected and active. Today we remember their stories, honour their sacrifice and carry their legacy forward.

  • Great to have members of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Board at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre today ahead of Swimming Australia’s 2026 Australian Age Championships, including Brisbane 2032 President Andrew N. Liveris, Australian Olympic Committee President, Ian Chesterman , and Paralympics Australia President, Grant Mizens OAM PLY. Hosted by Swimming Australia CEO Rob Woodhouse, the visit was a valuable opportunity to share insights on major event delivery and the benefits of legacy infrastructure. Just as the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre is a legacy of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the National Aquatics Centre in Brisbane will be a lasting legacy of Brisbane 2032, providing a world class environment for major events, high performance and community access over the decades to come.
