  • Great to see our trusted partner GALAXY 1 COMMUNICATIONS, LLC at Utility Week Live this week. They are on site with a live NB-NTN demo showing how satellite connectivity can reach assets that terrestrial networks can't. For utilities, keeping critical infrastructure such as pumping stations, substations and remote sensors connected in hard-to-reach locations is one of the more persistent challenges they face. When those assets go dark, visibility goes with them. NB-NTN changes this equation, enabling cost-effective connectivity at the asset level and opening up a new level of insight across distributed operations. If you're at the show, Galaxy 1 are demonstrating what this looks like in practice at Stand E4, at the NEC in Birmingham. What's the connectivity challenge your remote or distributed operations still haven't solved? #UWL26 #UtilityWeekLive #SatelliteIoT

  • 📊 89% of IoT decision-makers would consider replacing existing connectivity within 2–3 years. That signals imminent, not incremental, change. As direct-to-device (D2D) capabilities gain momentum, operators are no longer viewing satellite connectivity as a bolt-on enhancement but as a foundational layer for future IoT deployments. Over time, D2D has the potential to simplify IoT estates — reducing fragmentation, extending coverage beyond terrestrial limits and enabling more unified connectivity strategies. Now is the moment to rethink the connectivity stack altogether. Explore what the long-term replacement shift could mean for IoT strategy. • A recent Mining Weekly piece by Viasat’s Eric Verheylewegen makes a compelling case on how satellite connectivity fits into mining's digital transformation push. And the data behind it is compelling. Our latest Great Connectivity Convergence report showed that 96% of mining companies are increasing their IoT budgets this year, but the infrastructure to support that investment hasn't kept pace. Autonomous haulage vehicles, real-time geotechnical monitoring, remote worker safety devices: these applications are only as strong as the networks that support them, and most remote mine sites are well outside the reach of cellular coverage. The piece points to satellite IoT as the near-term fix, and NB-NTN as the bigger shift: devices switching between satellite and cellular over a single SIM, no dedicated hardware required. 69% of mining leaders are already looking to implement NB-NTN within the next year, with autonomous haulage, supply chain tracking and people safety monitoring the standout use cases. Find it on Mining Weekly’s website to understand where connectivity fits into the mining industry's broader technology agenda. Where does connectivity still let your operation down: asset tracking, worker safety, or somewhere else? #Mining #IoT #NTN

  • Breaking down outside cell coverage with no way to call for help is one of the most stressful situations a driver can face. But it's a predicament that's much closer to being solved than many realise. Using the HARMAN Automotive Ready Connect TCU and the latest Qualcomm chipset, vehicles can connect directly to Viasat's global GEO satellite network over NB-IoT, making emergency calls possible beyond the reach of any cell tower. That means that if something goes wrong in an area outside cellular cover, help is reachable wherever you are. For OEMs, it means safety capabilities not dependent on terrestrial infrastructure. The ecosystem is moving. The question is how quickly this becomes standard across the industry. Beyond emergency calls, what's the connected vehicle capability you most want to see delivered over satellite next? #ConnectedMobility #Automotive #NTN

  • At MWC Barcelona, Viasat joined HARMAN Automotive, Qualcomm and BMW Group on stage to discuss the future of automotive connectivity. 🚗 The Harman SatCom Connectivity panel brought together the full automotive ecosystem: Qualcomm at the chipset level, HARMAN through its Ready Connect integration layer, and BMW at the OEM level. All aligned around the same NTN (non-terrestrial-network) standards. The conversation covered the state of automotive connectivity: where the gaps lie, what standards enable interoperability and what it takes to deliver always-on services to vehicles everywhere.🌍🛰️ Three themes stood out: 🔸The coverage gap is bigger than it looks. Terrestrial networks cover 80–90% of populated land mass, but vehicles don't stay on those roads alone. 🔸Permanent connectivity is a baseline, not a premium. For software-defined vehicles, OTA updates, remote diagnostics, and safety services all require always-on connectivity. 🔸At scale, even 1% matters. A single OTA campaign pushes gigabytes to millions of vehicles. If just 1% lack coverage, that’s millions of cars left behind. The connected vehicle market is heading toward $250 billion in services, with connectivity set to be standard in 90-95% of new vehicles by the end of the decade. The ecosystem has moved from discussion to demonstration. The only question now is how fast it moves to deployment at scale. Where do you see the biggest barrier right now: standards adoption, cost, or OEM integration timelines? #ConnectedMobility #Automotive #NTN

  • Last week in Gothenburg, Viasat experts offered a glimpse of the future of connected driving. At the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA)'s conference, our team showcased future satellite services for vehicles: live video calls, voice, and messaging over a simulated low Earth orbit satellite, capable of switching to NB-IoT over GEO if conditions changed. The demos show the potential for Non-Terrestrial Networks to fill the gaps of terrestrial coverage: keeping drivers and passengers connected and safe in places where cellular simply can't reach. Events like this are how the industry starts making it a reality. For those working on connected vehicle standards or NTN integration: what do you see as the biggest remaining barrier between simulation and deployment? #NTN #ConnectedVehicles #5GAA #Automotive

  • At MWC Barcelona, we made a live voice call over satellite from a vehicle, using existing 3GPP Release 17 standards and a standard 5G antenna. No new hardware. No cellular coverage. Just a driver, an emergency operator, and a connection that worked. This is what NTN convergence looks like in practice. Narrow band NTN is live now, and with partners Qualcomm, Cubic³, and Fraunhofer IIS, we're showing what that means for automotive safety beyond terrestrial coverage. Watch the full demo. #MWC26 #NTN #ConnectedVehicles
