Meet the "Sortinator" 🤝 an impressive capstone project from Penn State University students, built through collaboration, problem-solving, and hands-on engineering. Designed in Onshape by PTC, the Sortinator is an automated puck sorting system that combines mechanical design, PLC programming, computer vision, simulation, and custom electronics into one fully integrated project. The team engineered and assembled the physical system, developed the PLC control logic and ProtoTwin simulation, created a vision system to detect puck colors, and designed a custom PCB to interface with the hardware and power each motorized component.
