After 31 years with the company, Paul Greenwood will be retiring from his position as UK Chairman of ExxonMobil on May 1st. During his five-year tenure in the role, Paul has led the company’s UK presence through an ever‑changing energy landscape. This period has included key investments in our operations, notably the new low‑sulphur diesel facility at the Fawley Complex and the completion of the Southampton to London Pipeline (SLP) project, both critical assets of UK infrastructure. This time has not been without its challenges, including the commencement of the closure of the Fife Ethylene Plant in Mossmorran and our office in Leatherhead, both of which entail significant redundancies. Throughout these challenges we have done what we do best – continue to supply the high-quality fuels, chemicals, and lubricants that this country needs to function and grow. As we bid farewell to Paul, we are pleased to welcome Simon Herbert as the new UK Chairman of ExxonMobil. Simon, Vice President Strategic Policy, ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions, brings a wealth of cross‑functional experience from across the corporation, spanning Low Carbon Solutions, Marketing, Strategy and our Fuels & Lubricants Businesses. Please join us in welcoming Simon to the role as we continue to build a strong and resilient business presence in the UK.

“It is clearly an extremely challenging environment that we are working in, and we have had certain government policies that have undermined our ability to compete”, said Paul Greenwood, during his address to the Scottish Affairs Committee. The announcement of Fife Ethylene Plant’s closure is a severe warning to the rest of the UK’s vital chemicals sector. To stay competitive and sustain operations, our industry requires supportive policies, fiscal conditions, and regulations. The solutions needed if we are to keep high-value manufacturing and jobs in the UK are set out here by the Chemical Industries Association - https://lnkd.in/erewV3Sw

Critical action is required now to ensure the future of British refining. Our remaining refineries are facing an existential threat that puts the very fabric of our economy and society at risk. Without significant and rapid policy intervention, the country’s remaining refineries are at risk of closure, increasing reliance on foreign imports. Creating a level playing field for Britain’s refineries to compete is in the gift of the Government, and we need to see action.
