Building on the foundation of Play Quests and Video Quests, Discord is dropping new tools designed to eliminate the friction between a player discovering your game and their first session. Mina Mutha’s GDC presentation pulls back the curtain on what's dropping next under the hood: - Instant Play Quests: Allowing users to stream and play game demos directly inside Discord with zero download friction or app switching. - In-Game Quests: Leveraging event data directly from developers to reward players for deeper in-game milestones, like completing a tutorial or hitting a specific level. - Hero Ad Takeovers: High-impact placements engineered specifically for massive launch days, seasonal drops, or major collaborations. Whether your studio is launching on PC, console, or mobile, these tools are built to meet players where they are hanging out. We’re excited to share that we’re making it easier for League of Legends & VALORANT players to connect with friends with Discord account linking! We’ve partnered with Riot Games to integrate social features directly into League of Legends and VALORANT. Players can invite Discord friends straight to their party (no alt-tabbing needed), copy a party link and share it directly in their favorite server, and easily see which of their Discord friends play Riot’s games. These features are available for League today in select regions, and will be coming to VALORANT later this summer. Check out more about Riot’s integration here: https://lnkd.in/g-auu9j2 If you’re interested in how you can add Discord-powered social features to your game, learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gxgNdXDf

Community building isn't something you start after your game launches. It actually begins way back at the prototype phase. Last month, we did a talk with Games Ground Berlin all about how to navigate this journey. We focused on building a game community at every single stage of development, from prototype and alpha to launch and beyond. Whether you're just starting out or gearing up for a big release, your community strategy has to change as your game grows. In the talk, we broke down our core pillars for making that happen: - Structuring your server and roles: Laying down a clean foundation early on so your digital home can scale without the chaos. - Being present: Why showing up consistently as a developer builds real trust and long-term loyalty with your earliest players. - Moderation: Setting up healthy boundaries and systems to keep your community a safe, welcoming space as it grows. - Engagement: Keeping the momentum alive and turning casual players into lifelong advocates, well past launch day. If you want to scale your own player base or optimize your studio's Discord, the full recording is live on YouTube. Is your game part of the "What should we play tonight?" conversation? At GDC 2026, Discord's Mason Sciotti shared how developers can turn those social moments into active play sessions by bridging the gap between Discord and their game loops. From seamless account linking to actionable Rich Presence, discover how deep integrations help players find their friends and jump into games with zero friction. In this session, we cover: - Bridging the Social Gap: Why account linking is the foundation of player retention. - Driving Group Play: Using Game Invites to pull players back in, even when they aren't currently playing. - Next-Gen Comm's: Linking in-game guild chats to Discord servers to keep the conversation going anywhere. - New Features: A look at the new Game Stats widget for Discord profiles. Check out the full talk to learn how to supercharge your player experience with Discord magic. 📺 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gSJhjH3f #GDC2026 #GameDev #DiscordDev #SocialSDK #UXDesign

Earlier this week, Rust became the second major game to launch a native shop directly inside Discord — and we couldn't be more excited to partner with Facepunch Studios to make it happen. Discord Social Commerce lets developers sell in-game items where players already spend their time — inside their communities, voice chats, and DMs. Rust players can now browse, buy, and gift official items without ever leaving Discord, with purchases syncing instantly. More to come! 🎮 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gKxVhJau

How do you scale player safety when social features extend directly into your game? In our latest technical deep dive, Mark Mandal and Jamaica "Meka" March demonstrate how to build real-time, server-side moderation for in-game chat. What we cover: - Webhook Architecture: Intercepting DMs and Lobbies in real-time. - Go & C++ Implementation: Building robust filters and applying decision metadata. - SDK Integration: Optimizing callbacks for Unity, Unreal Engine, and native C++. This session focuses exclusively on chat moderation inside games using the Discord Social SDK, not the Discord app itself. Your players are already on Discord. They're in a voice channel right now, convincing their friends to play your game. You're just not there. At GDC this year, we broke down what it actually costs to be missing from that conversation, and what happens when you're not. Discord isn't a chat app with a dev program bolted on. It's where your next DAU spike is waiting. Watch the full GDC session: https://lnkd.in/gavzRXMC #GDC2026 #GameDev #DiscordDevelopers #GameGrowth #SocialSDK #GamingIndustry

Integrating real-time chat into your game involves more than just passing messages; it requires a plan for player safety. Next week, we’re hosting a live coding session to step through how to build your own server-side moderation workflows using the Discord Social SDK. We’ll demonstrate how to intercept and manage chat data on the server side to ensure your game’s environment remains healthy as it scales.
