About the role
This is a highly visible VP-level in-house opportunity for an experienced Medicare attorney to serve as the lead legal expert for Medicare and Medicare Advantage programs at a large managed care organization. The role reports to senior legal leadership and carries broad responsibility for regulatory strategy, compliance counsel, and government program matters across the enterprise.
What you'll do
Serve as the organization's primary legal authority on Medicare and Medicare Advantage regulatory matters
Advise business leaders on CMS rules, STARS/quality programs, bid strategy, and Part D compliance
Interpret and apply evolving federal regulations, sub-regulatory guidance, and CMS communications
Lead legal review of Medicare contracts, provider agreements, and government program submissions
Partner with compliance, actuarial, and government affairs teams on regulatory strategy
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and provide timely counsel to senior leadership
Manage outside counsel relationships and associated legal spend on Medicare matters
What we're looking for
J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership required
8+ years of Medicare / Medicare Advantage legal experience, in-house or at a firm specializing in healthcare regulatory law
Deep knowledge of CMS regulations, the Medicare Advantage program structure, and Part D
Prior in-house experience at a health plan or managed care organization strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to advise C-suite and senior business leaders on complex regulatory issues
Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to distill complex regulatory issues for non-legal audiences
