About the Role
The Vice President of Human Resources is the senior HR leader responsible for building, leading, and scaling a high-performing HR function to support organizational growth, employee engagement, and operational excellence. This role oversees all core HR disciplines including employee relations, compliance, HRIS, payroll and benefits, talent acquisition, performance management, and leadership development.
This is a hands-on, strategic leadership role requiring strong execution, sound judgment, and the ability to operate across both tactical and executive levels.
Travel Requirements
This is a REMOTE role requiring one multi-day visit (approx. 1-3 days) per month to the company’s New York/New Jersey office. An EST schedule will also be important for this position.
Additional travel may be required based on business needs, leadership meetings, employee relations matters, or special projects.
Responsibilities
Employee Relations, Compliance & Risk Management
Lead employee relations strategy, managing complex and high-risk matters including investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations, and conflict resolution
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
Partner with leadership and legal counsel on sensitive issues (claims, complaints, wage/hour, leave, accommodations)
Establish consistent documentation, policies, and risk mitigation practices
Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and respectful communication
HRIS, Payroll, Benefits & Data Governance
Own HRIS strategy and operations (Paylocity), including configuration, workflows, reporting, and optimization
Ensure data integrity, reporting accuracy, and governance standards
Oversee onboarding processes and employee lifecycle workflows within HR systems
Provide oversight of payroll and benefits administration to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency
Act as escalation point for HR systems, reporting, and process improvements
HR Leadership & Strategy
Serve as the senior HR leader, aligning people strategy with business goals and growth plans
Partner with executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent strategy
Build and scale HR infrastructure, policies, and processes to support a multi-state organization
Drive consistency in HR practices while supporting evolving business needs
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
Lead recruiting strategy, execution, and team performance
Partner with hiring leaders on workforce planning, hiring processes, and candidate experience
Standardize hiring practices, tools, and metrics to improve quality and efficiency
Performance Management & Talent Development
Oversee performance management processes, including reviews, calibration, and accountability frameworks
Design leadership development and talent programs to strengthen management capability and retention
Support succession planning, internal mobility, and long-term talent growth
HR Team Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop a growing HR team (currently ~7, scaling to ~10)
Define roles, workflows, service standards, and accountability
Foster a high-performing, responsive, and professional HR function
HR Operations & Administration
Oversee policies, handbooks, job descriptions, and HR processes
Ensure effective onboarding, offboarding, leave administration, and employee records management
Implement systems and controls to improve efficiency, consistency, and compliance
Qualifications
Experience
10+ years of progressive HR experience, including senior leadership
Experience leading HR in multi-state or multi-site environments
Deep experience across employee relations, compliance, HRIS, payroll, benefits, and talent acquisition
Experience building or scaling HR infrastructure in a growth-oriented organization
Experience with Paylocity very strongly preferred
Background in healthcare, professional services, or private equity-backed environments preferred
