Job Overview:
The Transportation Engineer I will assist the Project Manager in the design and development of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways. This role involves preparing design concepts, reports, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) construction documents, as well as providing support during construction. The position requires coordination with team members, interaction with clients, agency staff, and other consultants, while ensuring compliance with project scopes, budgets, and schedules. Additionally, the candidate will provide training for junior staff in technical skills.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the design and development of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways.
Prepare design concepts, reports, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) construction documents.
Support construction activities and ensure compliance with project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
Coordinate with team members, clients, agency staff, and other consultants under the direction of the Project Manager.
Provide training and mentorship to junior staff in technical skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Current California registration as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Minimum of three years of qualifying transportation design engineering experience.
Proficiency in using AutoCAD Civil 3D and familiarity with Caltrans standards.
Experience with preparing preliminary design reports, design plans, specifications, quantities, and estimates.
Knowledge of transportation design standards, including the Caltrans Highway Design Manual (HDM), Project Development Procedures Manual (PDPM), CT Standard Plans, CA Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CAMUTCD), and the AASHTO Greenbook.
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers and clients.
Willingness to work in the office a minimum of three days per week to facilitate teamwork, training, and mentorship.
