Texas A&M’s Chemistry Department is looking for a Technician I to support the Instructional Laboratory Program by assisting with the planning and supervision of technical operations. The Technician I provides training and oversight for student workers who assist with the preparation and distribution of chemicals and ensures laboratory activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
Opportunities to Contribute
Maintain and update chemical preparatory manuals, calculate quantities needed for individual experiments and courses, and provide oversight to student workers preparing standardized chemical solutions and mixtures.
Coordinate and supervise student workers to ensure teaching laboratories are supplied with basic materials and necessary chemicals and assist in securing laboratory facilities at the end of classes.
Maintain inventories of laboratory chemicals and supplies, assist in determining purchasing specifications for teaching laboratories, and ensure proper segregation and identification of chemical containers.
Assist with hazardous chemical waste consolidation, labeling, collection, transport, and disposal for instructional and research laboratories, including transporting placarded hazardous materials when required.
Work closely with the Technical Laboratory Coordinator and University Safety Officer to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university safety regulations and assist with safety orientation and hazard communication training for student workers.
Qualifications
High School or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years related work experience
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.
Ensure attention to detail.
Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work non-standard hours
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
