Job Description
Under specific direction, the research assistant will work with other lab members to study how the blood-brain barrier and the genes that allow it to form a protective environment for the brain exert their functions in the mouse brain using a variety of imaging strategies, mouse genetics, as well as cell and molecular biology techniques. The ideal research assistant will be well organized, self-motivated, and demonstrate responsibility. While here, the individual will gain experience with the scientific method, experimental design, leadership, time management, and have the freedom to implement their own ideas to help to accelerate scientific projects.
Day-to-day tasks include mouse genotyping, preparation of samples for immunohistochemistry, cloning of plasmids, and cell culture work. Other tasks will include imaging samples with fluorescence microscopy, measuring protein levels by Western blot, participating in lab meetings and maintaining records.
Working Conditions: The position will require working in a laboratory setting as well as in a mouse facility.

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that all duties and responsibilities must be performed at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.
- At least one year of related work experience in laboratory-based research (relevant course work may count towards some, though not all, work experience).
- Bachelor's degree preferred (Cell biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Microbiology).
- Must have good communication skills, organization, and be a team player.
- Term: This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
- Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
