The Program Director is responsible for the strategic development, execution, and growth of all skating and enrichment programs at Alice Noble Ice Arena, with a primary focus on figure skating and youth camps. This role leads program design, staff management, customer experience, and financial performance, ensuring high-quality, safe, and engaging experiences for participants of all ages and skill levels.
The Program Director operates with a high level of independence and collaborates closely with arena leadership to align programming with organizational goals. This position is ideal for a dynamic, entrepreneurial leader who is passionate about youth development, skating, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
Oversee all figure skating programs, including Learn-to-Skate, Intro to Figure Skating, freestyle sessions, and advanced training
Develop and maintain clear skill progression pathways from beginner through competitive levels
Ensure consistency and quality across all instructors and program offerings
Camp & Enrichment Programming
Design, implement, and manage year-round camps (summer, holiday, and specialty camps)
Create engaging camp experiences that integrate on-ice instruction with off-ice activities, games, and enrichment
Drive camp strategy as a key growth and revenue initiative
Staff Leadership & Culture
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate coaches, instructors, and camp staff
Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented culture focused on excellence and accountability
Provide ongoing coaching and development for staff
Program Growth & Customer Experience
Grow participation through innovative programming, strong customer experience, and retention strategies
Build relationships with skaters, families, and community members
Serve as a visible and approachable leader within the arena
Events & Showcases
Coordinate figure skating exhibitions, recitals, and camp showcases in collaboration with local partners
Support special events that enhance community engagement and participant experience
Marketing & Community Engagement
Collaborate on marketing efforts including seasonal campaigns, school outreach, and digital promotion
Build partnerships with local schools, youth organizations, and community groups
Financial Management
Develop and manage program budgets
Monitor revenue and expenses, adjust offerings and pricing as needed
Identify and implement new revenue-generating opportunities
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all programs meet safety standards, supervision ratios, and governing body guidelines
Maintain appropriate staff certifications and uphold risk management best practices
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
Track enrollment, retention, and participant feedback
Use data to refine programs and drive long-term success
Additional Responsibilities
Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned
Provide operational support to ensure smooth day-to-day facility operations
Assist with scheduling accuracy and ice allocation planning
Support arena-hosted events, tournaments, and camps
Collaborate with arena tenants and user groups to ensure a positive facility experience
Perform other duties as assigned by arena leadership
Assist with ice maintenance operations and operation of Zamboni
Qualifications
Preferred Experience
3+ years of experience in figure skating, youth programming, recreation management, or a related field
Extensive experience on ice in a participant or coaching role
Experience developing and leading camps or youth-focused programs
Staff supervision and leadership experience
Background in figure skating, hockey, or ice arena operations preferred
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent communication and customer service abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on program growth and innovation
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Financial and budget management experience
Certifications (preferred or ability to obtain)
Learn to Skate USA certification (or equivalent)
CPR/AED and First Aid certification
SafeSport training (if applicable)
Additional Requirements
Successful completion of background check
Proficiency in Microsoft 365
Work Environment
Regular evenings, weekends, and holidays required
Typical workweek is 40 hours, with additional hours as needed
Work is performed primarily indoors in a cold environment
Ability to skate and remain active for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
