The Prevention Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating prevention strategies, programs, and community outreach initiatives. This role promotes healthy behaviors,
reduces risk factors, and strengthens protective factors among individuals, families, and communities. The Prevention Specialist works collaboratively with schools, community
- organizations, and stakeholders to deliver culturally responsive, evidencebased prevention services that create meaningful and measurable impact.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement evidencebased prevention programs and curricula in schools, community centers, and partner organizations
- Facilitate engaging presentations, workshops, and training sessions tailored to diverse audiences
- Adapt program delivery to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of the community
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, including schools, parents, youth, and service providers
- Represent the organization at community events, health fairs, and outreach activities
- Participate in and support community coalitions, task forces, and partnerships
- Collect, track, and analyze program data to evaluate outcomes and effectiveness
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and organizational standards
- Prepare timely and accurate reports for funders, leadership, and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, attendance, and outcomes
- Ensure all activities align with ethical standards, funding requirements, and agency
Professional Development & Best Practices
- Stay current on prevention science, evidencebased practices, and emerging public health trends
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities
- Provide appropriate referrals to additional services and resources when needed
- Support crisis response efforts within scope of role, while maintaining professional
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human
- An equivalent combination of education and experience or actively enrolled in a
Human Services, or a related field
- Master’s degree preferred for advanced or coordinatorlevel roles
- 13 years of experience in prevention, health promotion, counseling, or community outreach
- Experience working with youth, families, and/or diverse populations strongly preferred
- Strong public speaking, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Knowledge of prevention strategies, evidencebased practices, and community health models
- Ability to collect, manage, and analyze data for reporting and evaluation
- Cultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal teams and

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening, if required by funding sources
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends based on program needs
- Combination of officebased and communitybased settings, including schools, events, and partner sites
- Frequent local travel within the service area
- Blend of administrative work, outreach activities, and interactive program facilitation
